Is there any way to change the size of the search window (besides resizing after it appears)?
Even a hack that would let me change the width would be apreciated

mildly helpful suggestion:
you can make a dashboard into an advanced search, then you can customize it to whatever you want. I’m not sure if you can make it the default though…
I believe that you can change the size, and you might be able to rightclick in the window and save it as a personalization (it has been a while since I tried this).
