Is there a way, without customization, within 10.2.400+ to have a different part description for sales as everyone else?
Sales Order Line = Part/Rev and Description (What you call it), Customer Part (What the customer calls it)
We have done this (or something like it) in our TEST environment… though it was broken for a while and I have not revisited it since Epicor claims they fixed the problem. So, I would suggest trying in TEST/PILOT first.
We created a new “Language” via Language Entry called “Sales Descriptions”.
On a given part, you can then add the “Sales Description” you want under that new custom language.
You then need to change the Language on the Customer record(s). With that, all sales orders, shipments, etc. for that customer should use the Language assigned on the Customer record, in this case “Sales Description”.
This is the same as it should work for “Spanish” as an example. If you set a customer to “Spanish”, it should pull in the “Spanish” part description on customer-facing forms.
We just created our own Language so we could put in “Sales Descriptions” vs more engineering-type descriptions which may provide more information than we want to share.
Again, this was implemented early on… and WORKED in test/pilot environments. But then broke during an Update. It actually still worked on the Epicor base form, but not on customized Kinetic layers (PRB0258567)… Epicor reported that this was fixed back in August, 2023… but I have not gone back to test & re-implement.
Customer cross reference will store the customers description. this would be customer specific and maybe works for you, or maybe not.
