We're planning a major network upgrade, and I'd like to know if anyone sees
any conflicts and whether anyone has done this before. Our plan is:
* Replace old servers with an NT domain with new servers with Active
Directory domain
* What we have:
* Currently we have a Windows NT 4.0 domain with 4 servers
* 1 is NT, and runs our Exchange Server for email
* 2 is NT, and runs our Progress/Vantage 5 database
* 3 is NT, File and Printer sharing
* 4 is new Windows Server 2003, running Progress/Vantage 6 database in
test mode.
* What we plan to do:
* replace 2 of the aging NT servers with 1 new server running MS Small
Business Server
* replace the NT Domain with the Active Directory Domain (required)
* keep the NT Server # 2 running Vantage 5, as is.
* It will be turned off when we go live with Vantage 6 on Server 4.
* will still be used as the company's primary database
* users from the new domain will continue to access Vantage 5 in the
old domain
* usernames and passwords will have to match in both domains to simply
daily log ins.
* keep the Windows Server 2003, # 4 as is
* currently it is joined to the NT domain
* we plan to join it to the new Active Directory domain
* Any potential or known issues / problems with progress or vantage:
* when changing domains ?
* when accessing old server from workstations from the new domain ?
* assumption is that progress / vantage will continue to work:
* as long as all permissions are granted properly
* as long as drive letters remain consistent.
* progress/vantage does not integrate with the Windows security system
directly, in such a way that will be affected by changing security domains.
Has anyone ever done this?
