Server Upgrade TIP

If you are doing a hardware replacement on your Vantage server I found out
the hard way that if you want to keep the same name (as I did for all those
RB reports, etc), you might want to change the name BEFORE you install
Progress/Vantage. I had everything working, and was just waiting for the
old server name to disappear from Server Manager (NT4) before renaming the
new box. It was late, so I went home and renamed the server in the morning
from home. Went to run Vantage and looks like it has hung, but was actually
working in slow motion. Work is close, so I head in. PCs still running
fine, but not from server. A re-install of the Client on the server didn't
help. The only UnRegOCX.Bat I could find was for v3, so I changed about 40
entries using RegEdit.

I guess you could debate at what point you rename the old server so that you
can give the new one the same name. I installed new as XXX-NEW (BDC),
Promoted to PDC, Renamed XXX to XXX-OLD, Renamed XXX-NEW to XXX. I like to
see the new one working before I touch the old one, this method was ok, but
I just didn't predict their being UNC entries in the registry (well, should
there be ?).

I've gone a similar path to Shirley, but not quite as Flash. TYAN 2466, 2 x
Athlon MP 1900+, 1GB PC2100, Adaptec 2110S, and 4 x 18GB 10,000RPM with 2
for NT, and 2 for Vantage.

Given the rush I was in (RAID controller threw a wobbly in old COMPAQ) I
didn't have time to research a tape drive (will copy backup file to my PC
daily this week). The place I bought it from sell a Seagate STT22000N-RTF,
which is a 20Gb Travan TR5, Internal IDE. This is only about $300(US).
That's plenty of capacity for my Vantage server and IDE is preferred as I
would need a different SCSI cable to plug in any more devices. Anyone care
to comment on this tape drive. Seems too cheap. The old Compaq had a 20/40
DLT, which is like 3 times the price for an Ex-Demo. I want it to work with
NT4 and ArcServe 6.5.

The other day I offered to share 'Menu Security' report. Wow -
received many requests for it. Would've uploaded to files section
but remembered we were running out of storage. So I gathered all my
uploads, placed in one zip file, and included the 'Menu Security'
report. Cut total size of my uploads from 1 to .5 MB. I'm going to
add an index file to zip later, describing each program/report.
