OT: New server update

It's going to depend upon how optimal the configuration for Progress you
want. To start with an optimal configuration would have Progress/Vantage on
an AD member server only (non PDC/BDC, etc). Then you would want to isolate
the Progress DB on the mirrored drives so as to maximize use of the SCSI bus
for DB traffic only. Finally, you wouldn't want to put any other traffic on
the server including image storage.

In the real world of compromise, however, it's likely going to be your AD
PDC running all that entails (AD, DNS, DHCP, etc) right along with Progress
plus Virus Protection and some other ancillary processes. I'm guessing from
the sizes of the drives that you are looking at a SCSI configuration so what
I would suggest is that your system drive is fine, save a couple of bucks
and drop the mirrored drives to 36G and add one of those giant and cheap
250GB ATA IDE drives for your image files.

Good luck on your migration.

Subject: [Vantage] OT: New server update

Okay after all the suggestions I am getting a New Dell Server for Vantage
Yippee!

I was following a thread recently about images etc.

Looking for configuration suggestions:

I have two 73gb mirrored drives in the new server (one 18gb for the OS -
Server 2003!)

I was considering dividing the 73gig up as follows:
35 gb for Vantage (I currently have two 9gbs mirrored) I want to do After
image backups The remaining drive space would be for my engineering files -
No applications on the server other than Vantage The Engineering share would
be for images etc Is this a good idea?

My thinking is once we go with some form of document imaging solution on the
plant floor, the files will already be there

I am taking a old NT4 PDC off line and moving all the user shares to my old
Vantage server

Thoughts?
