I read an ancient thread on this but decided to create my own since that one is 15 years old…
I have parts that I want to buy at times and manufacture at other times. Is there any fancy way to set up these parts in my MOM so I can indicate that I want PO Suggestions this time but another times I want unfirm jobs created for the same part?
Off the top of my head, create the part as purchased but add a revision and put the MOM to make the part there. Then if you want to make rather than buy, create a job and get the details
The ‘rule’ is that a MFG’d part can be purchased but a PURchased part cannot be MFG’d. Set you parts to MFG and create MOM/BOM. Then just purchase it when you need to.
If you want PO Suggestions, it has to be marked PUR and the other parameters for MRP to work need to be set up - otherwise a MFG part will get a Job suggestion. I don’t know of a way to have it both ways.
If you’re OK with it, you could do “PartNum-M” and “PartNum-P” parts and make them Alternate Parts to each other - which would allow picking substitutions in subsequent processes. But cycle counting and inventory trans would need to be done for each part #. The only issue I see would be a consolidated stock status report if you wanted to see a ‘total’ balance.
