Shift differential

Well stated Brian. That is exactly why we use a standard rate rather than
using actuals. That and safeguarding employee payroll information.

Shift differentials should be handled the same way as overtime
premium. Why charge a job a higher cost because it was worked on
during overtime or on the 2nd or 3rd shift? All jobs need to pick up
a portion of shift differentials and overtime premium.

I noticed this morning that our labor costs in the production detail
report do not account for a shift differential. I was told by tech
support to increase the employees rate by the differential amount.
Whats the point of having a shift table with shifts defined with rate
differentials? We do not have the payroll module but for those of you
who do wouldn't this double the differential?

Not necessarily. Vantage gives you the choice of what labor rate you want
to use. You can use the actual payroll figures OR you can specify a labor
rate and enter that in the employee's master file. We use a shop labor rate
rather than the employee's actual rate.
