When I originally purchased Vantage I was told that maintenance was a % of
price which any normal person would think meant that it was a % of price
PAID. When I asked for a clarification I was told that it was a % of LIST
price. When I pointed out that nobody ever paid LIST for anything the
salesperson just shrugged and smiled.
When I asked what the future would bring the response was that the % would
probably stay the same. When I asked if the LIST price number was fixed or
if it would slowly increase over time I got another smile.
So maintenance was a % of an ever increasing LIST price that NOBODY ever
actually paid.
Such a deal!
I've since found a number of software companies that use the same goofy (
and profitable ) logic.
So whenever I'm buying software that has a maintenance fee I always get an
addendum that maintenance will be a % of the price WE paid for the product
and that it cannot be increased by more then x-% per year. Typically I cap
it at 3 % per year.
It's a fairly simple change in the contract wording but it usually nets you
about a 40-50% savings on maintenance fees.
Oh well, in this case I'd suggest taking a serious look at other products as
replacements for Vantage. You might even get enthusiastic about it and talk
about some of those other wonderful packages on the list. In the meantime
it IS end of quarter and EPICOR might be willing to cut you a serious
discount if that means you continue to use Vantage as a happy customer.

They base their price off of something close to 17% of what you paid for the
system. That is what I was told when I was busy laughing at my CAM when I
had received a Maintenance bill for 48K. We negotiated that down to almost
50% of the quote. I haven't had to add any licenses. I have 69 plus 12 DC
licenses.
