Tablets Best Practices - Vantage 8.03.4xx or E9

I attempted to use tablets both on the shop floor (picking, shipping) and with a couple of our sales people. In both cases, the tablets have failed the test. The guys on the shop floor just cannot grasp a touch screen and the sensitivity and accuracy needed to input data. Same thing on the sales side... they work great on a few of my web-based dashboards, but actually entering data sucks.

I’ve stuck with rolling carts with UPSs and Laptops affixed to them with barcode scanners (for the shop folks) and ultra-laptops for my sales people.

I even have tried touchscreen POS-type terminals for MES. I’ve had great difficulty losing the keyboard and mouse. Can’t say I blame them.

IMO, business-use computer assets need a keyboard.

We are investigating using tablets with Vantage and eventually E9. Do you use tablets are your site? If so, can you share your experiences/best practices? Of particular interest is the following:

-Hardware
-OS
-Software (MES, full version Vantage/E9, Customizations, other)
-Terminal or Local
-Failures

-Tablet's vs. WinMoblie Scanners pros/cons

Anything you care to share would be greatly appreciated!!!

We are experimenting right now with a Samsung 700T1A for our shop floor supervisors..it runs 8.03 very well actually... it hasn't been out on the shop floor long..so jury is still out on longevity..
