[Tech] Half/Full Duplex - followup

You can also turn off "Broadcast" in the TCP/IP settings for the network card on the Win95 PC's. This polls the network and can cause major system slowdowns

I'm telling you dude, try changing the workstation in question to Win 98 SE. I went through tons of crap, and did that last, on three data collection PCs and one office PC and had a great improvement!

As a followup to my earlier post:

Server: The server is a NT4 SP6a server, using the same server
name, IP address, OS and service patch as before. It's a P-III 700
single processor with 512 Meg RAM. Vantage is the only
application running on this server (well, there is the UPS software
and the tape backup client). There is no virus software running on
the server.

Per Epicor's 'Performance Tuning Document', the server is getting a
buffer pool hit rate of about 96% (it better be, with all that memory
and no other applications running).

Workstation: The workstation (in question) is running Win95C on a
P-II 350 MHz machine with 64 Meg RAM. There is no virus
software running on this workstation.

server handling all of our file/print serving needs, and a NT4 server
running Vantage. I'm using Novell's NDS4NT to assist in the user

workstations run both Novell's Client32 and Microsoft's client for
Windows. We have a HP ProCurve Switch 4000M tieing it all
together.

Having Novell connected to the network can slow things down.

You may want to temporarily uninstall the novel client on that machine and
see if it helps. I saw some articles in passing on microsoft's knowledge
base about novel/NT performance issues. You may want to explore that
avenue.

Of course the fact that other computers with the novell client run fine
suggests a slim possibility that this is the problem.


Might be worth checking, though.
Does anyone else have a similarly configured Novell/NT network that
works/doesn't work well?

There is a Winsock version 2 upgrade at Microsoft that Epicor says should help Win95 workstations speed up. You can find the link on Epicor's home page.
