Test Epicor on premise

Hello,
We are in the cloud and I want to test Epicor on premise, I have a copy of our production database.

I am new so please bear with me lol.

Is there anything i should be aware about ? any recommandation ? advise ?
i guess i have to import the database, install Kinetic server then the app server and install the licenses.

should the servers be in the same domain ?

how many servers can i install ? should i install an app server and task agent for each server ? i didnt understand the real difference between server app, task agent, erp server …

do you guy use VM for the sql server ? or you install it directly on a physical server ? iam thinking about performance ?

Thanks

I think your biggest problem will be getting the license from Epicor to install in the Administration Console, check this out first

Thank you Andy, but we have licenses. this is why I am trying to understand the difference between all this vocabulary. server erp, serverp app, system agents, task agent …

What are you trying to test exactly?

You could get an environment up and running on a laptop “for free” if you really wanted to… Download VirtualBox, create a Windows Server VM with trial license, install SQL Server Dev Edition, and install Epicor. Performance would be terrible but suitable to test any Epicor functionality.

If you’re trying to build a production caliber environment it gets far more intense and metric ton of work/knowledge is required to make it “good”.

So it really depends on your goals…

may i have more details about it please ?

Read the Epicor New Install, Architecture, Performance Tuning, and SysAdmin guides on EpicWeb… the documentation is pretty good.

We can’t give you much better advice than that without knowing your objectives…

This, read the new install guide @zed. If you do not have any IT experience or anyone on site with experience setting up servers this might take you a little while, but the install guides should help.

thanks you for your answers,

i already read the install guide. i have experience with servers.

i just want some advise before installing it. for exeple : is it better inEpicor to use sql server through VM or directly in a physical server ?

can we choose wich tasks we assign to which app server ? can we do a load balancing ?

these kind of advise.

You might want to reach out to a consultant who has done a ton of installs. Maybe someone on here will answer you, but the answer to your question really depends on what you’re trying to do and the specifics of your company.

This is 2023. Everything is in a VM or a container of some sort.

I would check with your cam. Last time I looked into it, this is against the software agreement. Your license is only valid in the cloud. You get a test environment with the cloud and have the option to buy more.

Yead sure, we have trial licenses provided by our CAM

Just to let you know guy, we have installed Epicor on premise for some specific testing … using our Cloud production database.

the installation was simple … except the fact that we had to delete the sysagent directly from the database as it was epicadmin which is used in the cloud.
