Sorry, I guess I assume the whole world is still on version 3 (like
me)...

Thanks again.

Hello out there:

I want to copy my current database over to the training database to
practice for physical inventory in a couple weeks. I did this once long
ago, but forgot the details. Do I just copy the actual database file?
O r are other files necessary?

Thanks for any/all help given!!

Depends on the version you are on. If 3.0, just copy all the DCDV7.* files.
If 4.0, you must use Procopy or Probkup and Prorest.

Just copy the .db and .bi files and you should be fine. If you wanted to be
safe you could copy everything from one directory to the other. Just make
sure and do this while your database isn't running.

We no longer allow attachments to files. To access/share Report
Files, please go to the following link:Â
http://www.egroups.com/files/vantage/
(Note:Â If this link does not work for you the first time you
try it, go to www.egroups.com, login and be sure to save your password,
choose My Groups, choose Vantage, then choose Files. If you save the
password, the link above will work the next time you try it.)
If you don't want to have to stop your current database, you can use Epicor's "on the fly" backup utility and then restore the database to a new directory. Epicor support can give you the details (as they did for me). It actually takes a bit longer to do (because there are a few extra steps involved), but you don't have to tell your whole company to take a 5 minute break, or worse yet come in at 4am to do the copy while no one is on Vantage.
