Unfirm Job Duplicated

Epicor has been creating duplicated unfirm jobs for the past week or two. We create an order, then make the job (from an unfirm job or not), the demand link is created properly to the order, but then the system will still create an unfirm job on its own, even if a job linked to that order exists. This happens even if a job is already finished and closed.

It is happening to some orders now but I can’t find the difference, if any, between the ones that have it and the ones that don’t.

What do you guys think we’re doing wrong?

I don’t think anybody can say without more information. Can you post screenshots of one of the order releases and its original linked and duplicate unfirm jobs?

Time Phased Inquiry is where I go to research issues like this. It will show all demand requirements and supply along with the running inventory quantity at each step. This sounds like the Order Release is Make Direct but the Job is Make to Stock, or the other way around. If your demand/supply types don’t match up, MRP will suggest new jobs with the correct setup.

Yeah I thought maybe our sales team was not marking the make direct properly so that could be causing the issue, but everything is done correctly.
I think I found where the problem is occurring, though. The jobs that were duplicated by MRP had been closed before shipping the order, I couldn’t properly test this yet to make sure that’s what it is, but it makes sense. I will test later today.
Thanks, Tyler!

I believe I found the error, jobs had been completed and closed before we got to ship the orders. I’m gonna test this today to be sure. If not, I will post some screenshots and maybe get some ideas here. Thanks, Alisa!

That would do it. Once the Job is closed Epicor doesn’t see the supply for the demand and says I need a job. Also if you are doing that how are you shipping the WIP from the job, it won’t exist anymore. If you are receiving it to Inventory before shipping on an MTO job you are going to destroy your P&L

Right, the department that closes job did not see that they were not shipped by logistics yet. Human error in this case. Thanks, Joshua!

We added BPMs to job closing that don’t allow a job to be closed with WIP in finished goods at the assembly level. If you have AMM I would consider implementing this at your facility.

  1. Finished WIP that needs to be flushed to variance needs to be moved back to the operation from whence it came.
  2. No job is allowed to close with WIP at Oper 0 (assembly level only)
  3. If you have good MTO finished that you can’t ship then you need to bring that to inventory and get it out of WIP.
