Agreed, IE makes a poor FTP client. I Use Windows Explorer which is OK, but at dedicated FTP client is usually the best way to go.
On a side note, if you ever need to automate FTP scripts, ScriptFTP is an excellent program (http://www.scriptftp.com/). I use it for our EDI clients that use direct FTP transfers. You can create and schedule FTP transfers and the its reasonably priced.

I've used FileZilla to do the uploads a few times and have never had a problem. I would not use IE as an FTP client.

Or you could do it the old fashion way, put in on a CD or DVD and snail mail it to them. Beats banging your head against a wall for a week trying to upload it. I haven't uploaded our database in a while, but in the past when I had to I didn't have a problem. It just took a few hours (3-4) over a T1 and our database was over a gig.

I've had the same problem. Our compressed db is still over 500MB, and it can take over 3 hours to upload when there is a problem. The only "solution" so far is to keep trying... and just rename it each time. I also try different FTP clients to see if that makes a difference, and I can't say that it does. Eventually it will get there. Once it was such a problem (no joy for 4 or 5 days and uncounted tries) I put it on MY FTP site and made THEM upload it.
