User Defined Fields

We use the SQL version of Vantage and have added a SQL table to track the
UDF's we are using by table and field.

Just a quick question:
Â
We are in the process of defining fields that we will be using for internal use.
Â
Using the Part table as an example, there are several fields that start with "User". I understand that these are allocated for use by the Epicor customers and will never be used in an upgrade by Epicor.
Â
There are several other fields such as ShortChar01 - ShortChar05, Number01 - Number05. Are these fields also allocated for use by t he Epicor customer or are they exclusively for Epicor?

All the character01,02..., shortchar01,02..., number01..., date01,02... fields are available for you to use

When using UD fields, is there a way to track which ones have been previously used? In addition, is there any way to rename the fields so when you are creating reports you know which field is which?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I keep a list of fields I've used in Sharepoint. Vantage doesn't give you a way to track this.

I write BAQs against the UD fields and change the labels in the BAQ as needed. Then you can use the ReportLabels in the BAQ Report.

You definitely will want to create your own data dictionary so you know what those fields mean. Otherwise you can create problems for yourself.

Michelle,

The only way I manage/track the UD fields I've used is via an Excel
spreadsheet. I keep a worksheet for each standard table I use any UD
fields in. I'll put the actual field name (JobHead.ShorChar01) and a
description of what I use it for.

And, unfortunately, you cannot and should not change the field names.
It is up to you, when creating reports, to identify which UD fields are
what....
