Vantage 64 Bit

I choose 64 bit for engineering apps like inventor not vantage. I didn't
think to check first :(

My 2C. Vantage/Progress runs just fine on AMD Opteron Dual Core chips.
(Granted not REALLY 64 bit with 32bit OS) but the dual core really gives you
some surplusssssss horsepower. And you're all set to go to 64 if Epicor
does the application.

Word of caution indeed. Technically, Epicor does not support 64 bit
implementations of Vantage, that is true. If you are stout of wallet, stiff
of upper lip and long on extra time, you could experiment with Progress 64
bit systems running Solaris SPARC, HP PA-RISC and Compaq Tru64 (Read Alpha)
in native 64 bit binary mode. Nada for true 64 bit MS/Intel. Now, while
the OE 10 development environment doesn't run on native 64 bit platforms,
the Progress 4GL code does so, I would imagine that at a minimum, you would
need to ask Epicor to recompile all of the Vantage application server tier
4GL code to take advantage of the memory addressing available in native 64
bit mode. Otherwise, you would simply have 32 bit code running in a 64 bit
environment if it would run at all.

On the client side, Vantage runs just fine on XP Pro 64 but not in native
mode and, not so fast, don't expect to have drivers for any of your
printers/plotters/label printers/scanners, etc..etc...etc. just yet.

So, for those who thought Vantage 32 was a breeze...step right up.
