Vantage 8.03.4x Check printing hang up

Regarding 8.03.4x... We recently opened an incident with Epicor
Support whether Windows XP SP3 is supported. They replied that SP3
has known printing issues and SP2 is still the recommended version.
See the latest 8.03.400 Hardware and Configuration Sizing Guide dated
2/25/08.

It's a known problem with Vantage 6.XX as far as I know. We have had the issue and continue to have it. We spent weeks on this with Vantage support, but to no avail.

Basically if you print to two different printers Vantage/Progress gets confused. If you only print to the checks printer it should not be as bad, however this isn't possible for us.

Before printing checks we have to exit Vantage, delete all the vantage work files. C:\epicor\VntgWrk61\*.* then log back into Vantage and the checks will print.

Some times it works and some times it doesn't... we have had this as
well and tried to get help from Epicor - we get stuck in the middle of
processing checks and then have to void a bunch of checks. Sometimes
it works and sometimes it doesn't

It's a known problem with Vantage 6.XX as far as I know. We have had the
issue and continue to have it. We spent weeks on this with Vantage
support, but to no avail.

Basically if you print to two different printers Vantage/Progress gets
confused. If you only print to the checks printer it should not be as
bad, however this isn't possible for us.

Before printing checks we have to exit Vantage, delete all the vantage
work files. C:\epicor\VntgWrk61\*.* then log back into Vantage and the
checks will print.

We have been having issues with our check printing wanting to hang up as
we go to actually print out the checks. We can call up the invoices and
list them out just find, but when we print it doesn't do anything. At
first I thought it was something with the username, but then I had him
switch to a different user name and it is still the same problem. We
can get them to print if we do a mass delete, post the group, and then
restart the computer. I have tried different login ID's, different
group ID's, but it is still the same problem. He has a new computer,
but the problem was happening before that. I have gone through and
deleted out the temp folder, and still a problem. My assumption is that
something is hung up within Vantage itself, and I have even restarted
the server.

Has anyone seen anything like this? If you have, what did you do to fix
the hangup? I haven't done any upgrades in terms of patch levels and
this is a fairly recent problem that has been popping up.

Any help is great. Thanks.

I think it may be a Windoz update issue, but Epicor support told me it was not a Windoz issue too. However, they never told me what the issue was, because they could not figure it out. Eventually I gave up and we have just been living with it.

The weird thing is, we have been on this level (and patch) for four
years now and this problem has only just started to occur within the
past 6 months. His computer is the only PC that prints checks and it is
a dedicated printer for checks, but he also has a network printer that
he prints to for everything else. It is just odd that it is now
happening. At first I thought it was a hang with his username, but then
it started to happen when he would sign in using a different username so
now I am baffled.

If it's a crystal form for printing checks have you verified the form.
Do you have any other applications on the PC that use crystal reports?

We have had the same issue ever since we upgaded to 6.1. It seems
to be related to any Crystal forms (invoices, travelers, quotes,
checks, etc). For us, closing Vantage and then logging back in
typically solves the problem. We have never been able to find a
solution either. Oddly enough, though, the problem seems worse on
HP Laserjet printers than other printers......

I'll second this for other applications. We've had it several times where accounting people (who typically print checks) also have other applicaitons (like Sage Fixed Assets) that use a stripped down version of Crystal as a report writer. Uninstalling the Vantage client and re-installing and then applying the Crystal 8.5 related patches on the Epicor site has always cleared this up for us. There are also several Crystal related .dll files that you can try copying from another PC where checks work (in particular CRPE32.dll) and see if this helps but it may also break any other application's Crystal reporting.

I think it may be a Windoz update issue, but Epicor support told me it
was not a Windoz issue too. However, they never told me what the issue
was, because they could not figure it out. Eventually I gave up and we
have just been living with it.

It was the same way with us. It just started happening one day. I have
even replaced the workstation with a new system and have seen the same
problem. At times it's not an issue. We did the black box with Vantage
support and sent them all kinds of information, but nothing was ever
resolved. Not long after the check printing issue I had the same problem
with a lady that prints job travelers, so I do not think it is only
related to printing checks.

The weird thing is, we have been on this level (and patch) for four
years now and this problem has only just started to occur within the
past 6 months. His computer is the only PC that prints checks and it is
a dedicated printer for checks, but he also has a network printer that
he prints to for everything else. It is just odd that it is now
happening. At first I thought it was a hang with his username, but then
it started to happen when he would sign in using a different username so
now I am baffled.

It's a known problem with Vantage 6.XX as far as I know. We have had the
issue and continue to have it. We spent weeks on this with Vantage
support, but to no avail.

Basically if you print to two different printers Vantage/Progress gets
confused. If you only print to the checks printer it should not be as
bad, however this isn't possible for us.

Before printing checks we have to exit Vantage, delete all the vantage
work files. C:\epicor\VntgWrk61\*.* then log back into Vantage and the
checks will print.

Used to happen to us all the time. Since upgrading to 8.03.4xx we have

We have been having issues with our check printing wanting to hang up as
we go to actually print out the checks. We can call up the invoices and
list them out just find, but when we print it doesn't do anything. At
first I thought it was something with the username, but then I had him
switch to a different user name and it is still the same problem. We
can get them to print if we do a mass delete, post the group, and then
restart the computer. I have tried different login ID's, different
group ID's, but it is still the same problem. He has a new computer,
but the problem was happening before that. I have gone through and
deleted out the temp folder, and still a problem. My assumption is that
something is hung up within Vantage itself, and I have even restarted
the server.

Has anyone seen anything like this? If you have, what did you do to fix
the hangup? I haven't done any upgrades in terms of patch levels and
this is a fairly recent problem that has been popping up.
