Vantage 803.408b crashes when printing using Windows 7

Thanks for tip Justin. That worked and we are able to print the Crystal Reports.Â
Â
However, now the Bar Code Font will no longer print on the Job Travellers.
Â
Is there a fix for this as well?
Â
Thanks again,
Â
Kerry Travis

Â
Upgrade the crystal reports .net runtime file to a newer version.

HI all

We have just got a M/f copier on trial.

It is a Sharp 3110N.

Every piece of software will print to it without any issues, ...... except EPICOR.

Does anyone have any idea why I wont be able to print from Epicor (crystal) to the new machine?

Thanks,

CHRIS

A little bit more info -

In system monitor it says print failed. Preview for details.

When you preview it previews fine with no errors.

Hi Chris,

Are you able to print from the preview?

We have encountered this problem before where the workaround was to submit the process and then print from the system monitor.

I believe the problem is now fixed in our database, I’ll try and find out what the fix was.

Darryn

If you could, it'd be greatly appreciated.

it works perfectly well with other printers and our existing multi functional copiers, just not the new one.

Hi Chris,

The only place I know it happens is in our Accounts office. They have various models of Brother printers.

What they have said is that they can also get round the problem by just pressing print preview instead of print and then printing from the preview.

Hey Chris,

I've had the same problem with many different printers including label printers... Make sure your margins and default page size are set correctly in both the crystal report page setup and your workstation's printer preferences... I use 0.25" for all within crystal, which is minimal...

Mark

I second the default page size issue. That's what we've ran into where the reports only print from the preview window...

Have Epicor not offered a solution?

We hope to role these out right through the building so we cant be previewing first each time.

It takes too long.

Hi Chris,

The only place I know it happens is in our Accounts office. They have various models of Brother printers.

What they have said is that they can also get round the problem by just pressing print preview instead of print and then printing from the preview.

Darryn

Hi Chris,

Are you able to print from the preview?

We have encountered this problem before where the workaround was to submit the process and then print from the system monitor.

I believe the problem is now fixed in our database, I’ll try and find out what the fix was.

Darryn

A little bit more info -

In system monitor it says print failed. Preview for details.

When you preview it previews fine with no errors.

HI all

We have just got a M/f copier on trial.

It is a Sharp 3110N.

Every piece of software will print to it without any issues, ...... except EPICOR.

Does anyone have any idea why I wont be able to print from Epicor (crystal) to the new machine?

Thanks,

CHRIS

I second the default page size issue. That's what we've ran into where the reports only print from the preview window...

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Chris,
I've seen things similar to this and here is what I found:

First this is NOT an Epicor application problem, but a Crystal Reports problem. Which if you are on maintenance with Epicor, should be covered, but I find support that is useful for CR spotty, so make sure the call is filed under Crystal Reports. While she isn't the most cheerful person to speak with 'Kristina' seems very knowledgeable... If you get 'Mary,' she's tough, sometimes she's great other times she seems to talk in circles.
When you use Preview in Epicor, the client works differently than when you use Print. Preview tells the client to pass the XML & .rpt to the clients Crystal Runtime, which seems to take the .rpt as it was designed in Crystal Reports Developer and uses the printer settings that was used in CR Developer for page sizes, etc. When you then print from within the Crystal Runtime, it THEN takes the already rendered report and sends that data to the print driver.
When you use the Print option from Epicor it still passes the XML & .rpt to the clients Crystal Runtime, but instead of using the .rpt printer settings, it looks to the clients printer driver settings to get the page size and such that you selected when printing.
With print preview the printer driver settings are NOT used for the report render but with the Print command from Epicor the printer driver settings are used for the report render.
While MOST of the time, the way the Crystal was designed will work on MOST printers without an issue, there are many scenarios when the crystal runtime and the crystal report cannot render to the printer driver. I think this is because the printer driver is not responding to the crystal runtime's request for page format data, but it could also be that the report's CR Developer settings are set and are not compatible with the page format data from the print driver.

what I have done in the past with mixed success is making a backup of the existing .rpt file and opening the original in CR Developer and changing the page settings to either NOT be bound to a specific printer OR to be optimized for on screen viewing... I don't remember which way works, but some combination works.

Also, you should know that Crystal Reports have their own bug list that can cause problems in specific scenarios. As a result we are currently using a SP of CR Developer that Epicor does NOT support, but it was the only way to fix our problems with labels, per CR (SAP).

Maybe this gets you in the right direction.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Good morning all,
Â
Some folks here are having problems with Vantage crashing when printing the canned Crystal Reports.
Â
After a bit of investigation, it was determined that only those users who run Windows 7 are having the problems. Those of us with Windows XP do not have an issue.
Â
Has anyone run into this? Is there a fix? From what we got from Epicor, they are not fixing this as 803.408b was not intended to run on Windows 7.
Â
Any help would most certainly be appreciated.
Â
Thanks and best regards,

Upgrade the crystal reports .net runtime file to a newer version.

Kerry,
Windows 7 32 or 64 bit? In my experience printer drivers are a pain in 64 bit.
Support is correct that Vantage is not designed for Windows 7, but doesn't mean that most of it doesn't work. Printing is a delicate function with most software since it is the hand off of data from the software to the OS and the various printer drivers out there.
Can you print preview?
If not, it could be a problem with Crystal Reports (and not Vantage) on windows 7.
With all respect and understanding that different companies have different policies, comfort levels and support resources: If you are paying for maintenance I thought that included upgrades into the next version (Epicor 9). While software bugs can bite, I recommend to most to try to stay on the latest version you can (3-6 months after release and Test Server testing). Usually there are greater long term benefits, including OS compatibility, that outweigh the nightmare bugs in the short term. I am not saying that a huge upgrade step to Epicor 9 is the solution to this problem, just my thoughts on software upgrading policy. Take it or leave it, just my opinion. :-)
