Vantage Documentation

Hey Jeff, Here's a pep talk. "You can do it if you try, you can do it!"

Doing my first upgrade (3.0 to 5.0) was a challenge to my nervous system until I read all the documents carefully (from Epicor and other users) and then did a walk-through on a test database that I knew didn't matter if I screwed up. Once I did it the first time and it worked, it was much less stressful and I knew it wasn't going to be a problem. If you are moving from 5.0 to 5.1 it should be significantly easier since there are virutually no reports to change or modify.

Give it a chance and see what you can do.
Epicor will give you all the phone support you need at no (extra) charge. That's what the maintenance fees are for (partially).

Does anyone else feel like they are having there money sucked out of them
by Vantage?

I go to do an upgrade to 5.1 and after talking to Vantage I will need to buy pre-consulting
to prepare for the upgrade and then post consulting to make sure we have it running correctly and that
the new procedures are done correctly.

Five thousand dollars every time I upgrade? (of course this is on top of a $25,000.00 maintenance fee)

Oh you don't have to upgrade but if your down two rev. levels we don't support your software anymore.

Ooooo I am so upset!

I believe most people did not hire Epicor to do any pre-consulting on an
upgrade or any post consulting unless you have not run Vantage prior to the
5.1 installation.

Jeff,

You might want to consider one of the third party consulting companies to
provide this service for you.

I suspect they can take care of your needs while saving you a bunch of
money.

Check out the 'Vendors' list on the yahoo - vantage website.

We're still running vantage 3 on the live side. Vantage support has been
very helpful. They have to dig a bit deeper to answer the version 3
questions, because not all of the tech personell were around a few years
back. However, haven't yet had an unresolved question.

Unless there has been a recent policy change I don't think that the above is
a
true statement. I know they would like all users to be on or near the
current
release for support reasons but if you are on an old release they should
still
support you.
