Raymond,

Along the same lines ... You can export from V4 and then import the data
into MS-Access. Then alter the table / fields as required using mass
changes etc .... and then export from MS-Access a "New" csv file which you
can then import into V 3.0

I did this several years ago when I wanted to install a clean version of
Vantage. I exported all of my master tables and imported them into a clean
DB with the exception of the BOM master files. Since we had accumulated
tons of garbage over the years I exported the BOM master files and a report
showing all of the item masters that had been used in the past 18 months.
After pulling the tables into MS-Access I simply cross linked the usage
table to the master tables and deleted all of the garbage. After exported
the new "Trimmed" down master tables from Access I was able to import them
into the new DB. About 8 hrs of my time to figure the whole thing out as
opposed to manually deleting 5-10,000 obsolete masters.

OOPS,

I misread your intent of taking V4 data back to V3. My premise holds but is
easier since you will need to remove some columns of data from the CSV file
before importing it into V3. Just make sure you follow the outline from the
Data Dictionary of each version to know which data fields are new to V4.

Hi all !

I am a new member to this group and have been using Vantage version 4 for
about a year now ! I was wondering if any of you have had problems using the
master import utility ? I have been trying to update the parts table on a
standalone version of Vantage. The standalone pc has version 3 of Vantage
installed ! I have exported the table using the Master Export Utility from
a version 4 of Vantage and I am trying to import the text file (CSV) . The
only error message that error log is showing is "UNABLE TO IMPORT FILE". No
other message is written in the error log. Can anyone offer any insight to
what could be the problem !

Thanks,

Raymond,

You need to take a look at the table definition differences between V3 and
V4. Unfortunately, there are table differences between the two versions
that cause a field mismatch if you just take the CSV file from V3 and
attempt to simply import it in V4. (Note that the Vantage export and import
do not allow a header row in the file.) At a minimum you'd need to add the
necessary fields (dummy in the necessary information) to make the CSV file
match V4.

I'd suggest you set-up your V4 by performing the V3 to V4 conversion
process. The upgrade process performs the necessary schema changes on the
data and "plugs the holes".
