Vantage payroll 8.0

Another member to this list had supplied me with a Visual Basic
application that converted the "canned" direct deposit file from
Vantage to the NACHA file required by our bank. I tested it and
everything worked fine, but management here had no interest in
offering direct deposit to our 450 employees who are paid weekly.
Our HR manager has now expressed willingness to revisit that
decision.

Since I had the APP stored on my desktop when my hard drive failed I
have lost it. If anyone can connect us with the individual who wrote
and provides this shareware, would you please let us know who it is?

Payroll module and thinking about doing inhouse. This will be a big
change since currently all taxes are taken care of by the outside
service, check running and stuffing, 401k reports, registers, direct
deposit, and W-2. How easy, difficult is using Vanatge payroll module.

We have a customer who's using it in version 6.1, and it's pretty easy. We only had to create some reports and an importation for the 401K.

We use the payroll module on 6.1 and it is very easy. I would assume 8.0
would be pretty much the same. There's quite a bit to the original set-up
to make sure everything goes to the correct G/L accounts, etc, but after
getting that squared away, it works great.
I had to create a 401k export file to upload to our plan's website, and had
to have a custom program to get the correct file format for direct deposits,
but those things were minor and we're very happy with it.

Julie, Can you tell how many employees you have. Are tax filing easy
once you set them up? Also reports - Do they have a supply of different
reports you can print or do we need to design are own? I'm wondering
how much more time is going to be spent if we do inhouse compared to a
outside service. They take care of everything !!

The NACHA File format is pretty easy to create (for the one's who knows Progress). It took me about a day to create and test it.

What did it involve creating an export file for your 401K?
Can you explain further the problem you had with direct deposits
regarding the file format?

Rich:
I wrote a simple Progress program for the 401k file export. It gives me the
data from payroll in the comma delimited format I need to upload it.
Also, the direct deposit file format that Vantage originally creates was not
a NACHA format. I could have created that file in Progress too (like Joel
said), but were some fields about the NACHA format that I wasn't sure about
and didn't want to mess with.
The NACHA format has a header record, then all the details which start out
632 or 622 depending on if it is a checking or savings account, then a
record for the debit and a total records etc. The file Vantage originally
created was nothing more than a list of the employee and their acct# and
amount. Now, maybe 8.0 payroll has the NACHA format included?
