Subject: RE: [Vantage] Vantage questions?

>My question: Is version 8.0 less buggy?

No. It is a much newer product and not nearly as mature.

>Are my problems due to the fact I am using Progress and not SQL?

No. Progress is the recommended DB for version 6.1

>Is there routine database maintenance that is supposed to be done that
could be causing problems?

No. Progress is pretty much maintenance free. You could rebuild the indexes
or perform a dump and load of the data; either of which might yield positive
results but there are no guarantees.

>Any input would be welcome. I am questioning the logic of upgrading to
>8.0
when there are so many problems with 6.1. The upgrade will require
significant effort and training and I wonder if that would not be better
spent on a different platform.

I have run into some issues with Vantage 6.1 that are of concern.

1) Our MRP would not 100% of the time create jobs for non-manufactured parts
that needed to be assembled until I upgraded to the .532 patch of 6.1.
2) When our customer service department started using Quick Entry, it did
not associate all of the information and our Rep Commissions were all messed
up.
3) MRP stopped creating jobs for assembly in the middle of a large order
for no apparent reason a couple of weeks ago and is just now starting to
create "some" again.
4) When a sales order line was deleted, the job associated with the part
that was on the line remained associated with the sales order line number
and showed up linked to a completely different part.

Epicor has my database and a couple of these are still open. Number 2 is a
known bug with no fix.

My question: Is version 8.0 less buggy? Are my problems due to the fact I
am using Progress and not SQL? Is there routine database maintenance that
is supposed to be done that could be causing problems? Number 4 seems to be
a referential integrity issue, as does number 2.

Any input would be welcome. I am questioning the logic of upgrading to 8.0
when there are so many problems with 6.1. The upgrade will require
significant effort and training and I wonder if that would not be better
spent on a different platform.
