I have a ton of experience with the PLM module, Pro.FILE. PLM works great out of the box for:
- Document Control
- Process Control
- Revisioning/Versioning Control of Parts and BOMs
- Liaise between your CAD modeling software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, etc) and PLM and Epicor
- Part reusability when cataloging and assigning part attributes
- Attach notes, drawings, other doc’s to parts in the BOM for later use in Epicor
To do what you want to do, “business process validation and control†is certainly do-able in PLM. PLM sits on a separate server then your Epicor server and has its own SQL db. MS BizTalk and Service Connect act as your middleware to sync/push/exchange data between the two disparate systems.
The front end is in C# and it’s a very nicely coded app using a lot of SQL db triggers, views, UDFs, Stored Proc’s to do a lot of the legwork.
You can pretty much make PLM do whatever you want it to do (the same sales pitch Epicor Sales reps say about Epicor Vantage). :-)
I had process control from part/BOM creation all the way to prototype and first article.
Good luck. Feel free to ping me offline with any other direct questions. Overall, it’s a great module.

Subject: [Vantage] Workflow creation/management?
We have several convoluted manual processes that our management would like to automate. Right now we have to have people from three different departments (Quality, Purchasing, Finance) physically sign off on new suppliers before they can be entered into the system. Would the Workflow Management part of the PLM add-on allow this to be automated? Another sister company is looking at PLM for document management within the ECN and Part processes as well. Does anyone have any experience with it?
Thanks,
