5.1 Set up of Crystal Reports 8.5

I just uploaded Seagate's patch as given to me by Epicor. Word of caution;
this doesn't work for everyone, but is a last ditch effort before ripping
out Crystal Reports V. 8.5. For obvious and understandable reasons, Epicor
still doesn't support 8.5, even with this patch installed. Use at your own
risk. It worked for me, tho.

All,

I have been trying pretty unsuccessfully to get my Crystal Reports set up to
start working on reports. I can see the Progress database fine, but I can't
find any of the .dbf files that I can point Crystal to. I have even gone as
far as creating c:\vntgwork next to c:\vntgwrk51. Searched the entire
network back and forth to no avail. Anybody seen this one before? I am
almost desperate enough to go out and buy the 8.0 downgrade, since
everything else seems to be set up right.
Does anyone have the ERANET shortcut to the Crystal Reports install handy?
I lost my bookmark.

TIA,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Are you trying to modify existing reports or create new ones from scratch?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Actually, I am trying to do both. I have a few leftover ones from the
upgrade to modify, and in addition to that, with year-end in sight, my CFO
already wants a few new reports written.

To modify the existing reports, you should be able to just open the report
up in crystal, make sure you set the location to c:\vntgwork\tablename.dbf.
This is all you need to do to modify.

To create new reports, you can use the dbf files, but remember, they will
only have in them the data from the last time a report was previewed in
Vantage, so these probably won't always work. To get to the data here, go
to the Data Explorer and go to "DataBase Files" and double-click 'Find
Database file' then navigate to your c:\vntgwork directory.

However, most likely, for new reports, you will have to use ODBC, which
(provided it is set-up on your machine) you can connect to by going to the
Data Explorer, Odbc, and finding your datasource name (mine is Epic50 on
vantage 5.0).

Does this help at all?

To add to the mystery: my environment is set up for c:\vntgwrk51, but I
tried c:\vntgwork earlier today with same results. Both directories stay
empty.
You did confirm (as did Ed) that I am working it the right way, but at the
Progress level something ain't talking right....
Thanks!

I am reworking those at the moment. I found that instead of trying to
repoint all the individual fields it is much faster to grab one of the
canned reports and modify those.
I am still baffled by the POFORM, though. It flat out refuses to print
shipping release requirements on multiple items.

[Copy of email under subject "Crystal Reports Fix"]

Paul,
POFORM problems...
It's because you have CR 8.5. 8.0 would work fine, and I'll bet if you view the PO form on a workstation without 8.5 it will look fine. 2 options: Don't print the PO form from your 8.5 workstation. or, have someone get you the instructions to fix 8.5 for Vantage. Remember, Epicor does not support CR 8.5 with Vantage... Only 8.0 - although there are numbers of users on CR 8.5 (including myself). Anyone know the proper .dll versions to make CR 8.5 work for Paul?

To modify the existing reports, you should be able to just open the report

However, most likely, for new reports, you will have to use ODBC, which
(provided it is set-up on your machine) you can connect to by going to the

Here is the update on the POFORM not printing the shipping release
requirements on multiple items...
Called in the problem with Epicor. They e-mailed me their version of the
POFORM.RPT, which I placed in my userform directory (didn't even touch it
with 8.5). I made sure that there were no remaining or old versions of the
poform laying around, and that the vntgwrk51 was empty. I ran the report
again from a different workstation, but still the problem persists. Since I
haven't heard anybody else having this problem, I am inclined to focus more
on our side for the solution....

Paul
Paul,
Have you tried it on another workstation that does not have CR 8.5 on it?

Here is the update on the POFORM not printing the shipping release
requirements on multiple items...
Called in the problem with Epicor. They e-mailed me their version of the
POFORM.RPT, which I placed in my userform directory (didn't even touch it
with 8.5). I made sure that there were no remaining or old versions of
the
poform laying around, and that the vntgwrk51 was empty. I ran the report
again from a different workstation, but still the problem persists. Since
I
haven't heard anybody else having this problem, I am inclined to focus
more
on our side for the solution....

Have you tried Todd's suggestion here:

"I moved CRPE32.DLL from my formerly 8.5 PC to the Vantage .DLL folder and fixed this issue. When I checked the rev level, even after completely (I thought) removing 8.5 it was different form the Vantage version. I have had no ill effects but did rename the Vantage version to .DLX before copying from my PC, just in case I wanted to go back.
-Todd C."

Sure did. Still the same results. Actually, when I received the report I
copied it to the userformfolder and ran over to the purchasing dept, which
does not have any version of Crystal Reports installed...
