8.03 Configurator Configuration

Mark,

Place holder parts work in V8 and v803, you need to set
filed on the PartMtl whether Job or Quote and then use a rule function
to GetPartDefaults()

Another option you could do is check if the part record exists as you
configure the item, or if at the job stage you could show on hand status
also.

Another option is to have a combo box listing all available parts that
meet the criteria - you can then add the new part to the system and it
become available to choose from the configurator.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Vantage] 8.03 Configurator Configuration

Our product (a flowmeter) is made up of five major components:

- Housing
- Bowl
- Internals
- Seals
- Control Box

Each meter has at least one of these components and the customer has
configuration options for each. Some of the more common options are
manufactured in advance and put into inventory while other combinations
are
made as needed. Take the housing for example. A brass, one inch,
NPT-threaded
low pressure, standard flow housing is quite popular and we keep them on
the
shelf. OTOH, a brass 1 3/4" SAE threaded, high pressure, reverse flow
housing
with a valve is not and we do not inventory them.

The configurator KEEP WHEN rule assumes that a part number exists for
each and
every option and that's just too many parts to maintain. We often run
into
combinations that we haven't built before and then a JOB goes onto the
floor
without a housing.

What I'd like to be able to do is to see during prompting or Get Details
if we
inventory a certain option and then use the KEEP WHEN logic to keep it
or
otherwise create a sub-assembly to make the required part. If the
configurator cannot do either then it should indicate to the planner
that the
configurator was unable to determine the proper component part/assembly.

Someone suggested "place holder parts", which made sense, but I don't
think
that is possible in V8. I seem to be able to only change the main
assembly
part number and not any of JobMtl part numbers.

We're probably going to call Epicor consulting but we want to make sure
we
fully understand the capabilities of the configurator before we do so.
Any and
all help is appreciated. I'd like the solution to work with
Sales/Customer
Connect if possible - just to make it challenging. ;-)

Thanks,

Mark W
