Vantage 8.03.408 Configurator Job WARNING

 Hi Steve:
Â
>6940-42 chair is created in the part master along with the method
Â
A BOM Method is created during 'get rules' that updates/adds records the 'partMtl' and 'PartOpr' tables for the 'new' Part?
I think the method created (in configured parts) is 'quote-related' only (QuoteMtl, etc.)Â unless there is a customization (at least in my old version 6.10).

The best way for me to explain this is by example. We have a configurator called CLchair. This configurator can create a number of different chairs with a number of different options. Customer Service may get an order in for a 6940 chair in color 42 which has never been made before. They go into the CLchair configurator from the sales order, select the options, and a 6940-42 chair is created in the part master along with the method and the 6940-42 is entered on the order in place of the CLchair.

So the next day MRP spits out a demand for a 6940-42 and our planner creates a job for it. I'm a little fuzzy on these details, but I understand most of it is automated. Before 408, the job would pull in the method from CLchair by supplying the input values into it just as if you were configureing it yourself. Now with 408 it sees that there is a part in the part master table with a method and uses that instead.

The problem is that the method in the part master table as created by the configurator has problems. So now we have to go back into all these jobs, delete the method and then do a get details, pulling it from CLchair (or whatever the base configured part was).

Thank you for the warning. Every time we install a patch or upgrade, we
test configured parts extensively. Even doing so, we always seem to
find something about them that doesn't work correctly.

I'm a little confused by "if a method exists in the part master".
Possibly I'm confused because we may not have this, but definitely want
to make sure before installing the patch. We have several configured
part numbers. On those part numbers are revisions on which the
configurators are built. The configurators have very generic MOMs on
them. We keep and replace each MOM piece with an actual operation or
material as needed. Is this to what you are referring?

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage 8.03.408 Configurator Job WARNING

Epicor made a major change to how jobs for configured parts are created
in 408. Before 408, the method by default for a job of a configured part
came from the configurator. In 408, if a method exists in the part
master, that part master method becomes the default for the job and not
the configurated method.

The problem of this is that the method in the part master for a part
created via the configurator is not correct. Labor entry on all
operations are always set to "Time & Quantity" and if your configurator
makes any changes to production standards, these are not reflected in
the part master method.

No mention of this major change appears in the 408 change notes and SCR
59521 which I was told address this change is no where to be found on
the Epicor web site. I even requested a copy of this SCR from Epicor and
no one seems able to provide it to me, that that it would help my
situation. We are spending hours every day now changing the method on
jobs of configured parts.
