Anti-Virus Pgm's

Makes sense to me. Providing all other access to the server is blocked then
no method of transport is available for the virus. Methods of infestation,
exe, vbscript, document files are effectively cut off providing you don't
access these files from the server. Unfortunately my Vantage server
performs other functions requiring the virus software. Well that's my two
cents.

If we run Vantage on a "Dedicated" server where NOTHING else is run ...

Do we need to run Anti-Virus programs full time on the server ?

Given:

* We are not using this server as a "print" server
* We are not using this server as a "file " server
* It's not a PDC or BDC
* It's not running exchange or any other mail server

Then isn't the only traffic to and from this server native IP packets going
to and from the Progress server software ?

In my case my "Vantage" server is also a file server, hence the need for an
anti-virus program ( we use Innoculan ).

But since anti-virus programs can significantly slow down a Vantage server
wouldn't it make more sense to run Vantage on a truly dedicated server
without anti-virus software ?

Note: I would still install Innoculan and run it manually before / during
/ after updates. I'm just suggesting that it serves no purpose to have it
running continuously in background.

Whatcha think ?

I do not know much about Viruses... but even those 'native' IP packets could
get infected and then confuse your "totally" stand alone server ?... we
should get an answer from Epicor or Progressive which AV runs best with
Vantage.
