APM & APM+ Discussion

I gave up on the upgrade since I had so little invested in the 2.5 install. A clean install of 2.6 went smoothly on my system...just waiting for the license keys from Altec now.

Uninstall APM 2.5
backup SQL db (if keeping)
Make sure you are running SQL 2005 or 2008
Install 2.6 making sure to denote which version you are upgrading from if you keep your db
Make sure you set activation account for COM+ application

I piloted upgrade several times and had times where SQL upgrade scripts did not complete - in which case I restored from backup and then ran the sql upgrade exe manually

a couple times I had duplicate ERM printers created which I had to delete from db manually

Good Luck

I am looking to make contact, off list, with someone who has implemented APM. I say off list because I really would like to talk in order to get as much of the understanding as I can.

We installed (Epicor Consulting installed) close to two years ago. It never got off the ground. It has come up many times but I think we are done just bringing it up and want it in place.

The big push that we have is to utilize the email/fax options for purchasing.

If you have a few minutes and wouldn't mind giving me your insight and the steps taken, please shoot me an email and we can set a time.

Thanks.

We delayed putting APM for two years and then only put it in to say we did it.

Users don't like it at all....the covering e-mail
does not contain any info of what the attachment
is about. Yes, you know it's a PO but you don't
know to what company or what the PO contains
without opening the attachment. Same with SO's

On top of the inadequacies of the message itself,
setting the software up and maintaing is a major
PITA. The maintenance is something right out of green-screen days.

Ditto. There is nothing 'advanced' about it except the set-up procedure.
We don't use it either. Very disappointing.

There IS a way to fix up the subject line and body of the e-mail so it contains helpful information (and fax cover pages too). It is a bit of black magic but can be done - once you figure it out. You have to be on the 2.6.467 build 36 patch release 750 or above level. There was a bug with APM in regards to this feature but was fixed in that release level. I am working on a setup document so I can share with whomever would like the steps to putting a new document out in APM. Once you know the steps it is easy - like anything. I'll have something in a few days. If you'd like it I can post it to the site for all.

I would love to see the document as well. Any tips on configuring this software would be great.

I have it installed, not live with it, although I do have some documents setup and working. Found the features to be very basic - I was disappointed once seeing it in action. Hopefully you can shed some light!

Thank You,

Bob,

Are you using APM 2.6? A lot of changes were made to the subject lines and the body of the email now allows the use of both HTML and Property Values so you know exactly what type of document it is and what is contained in it...standard HTML coding with variables, etc.

Another really nice feature is the fact that now you can select an outgoing email address for each routing group - so your POs could go from purchasing@...<mailto:purchasing@...> instead of a generic email address - that is still on by default, but now it is configurable.

If you are on maintenance with Epicor, you can obtain at no cost.

The requested procedure document to create new document routings in APM - along with the use of customized e-mail subject lines and message body - has been uploaded to the group in the APM directory.

Be sure you have version 2.6.467 build 36 patch 750 or above to use the new features.

I hope it takes away a little of the mystery of APM.
Anyone run into issues upgrading from 2.5 to 2.6? I tried to follow the instructions but got a little lost pretty quickly and blew up my install (I'm not using it yet so not a big deal).

Good Luck
