Back Orders

Would anyone care to share how they deal with Back Orders? Vantage will
list a back order quantity on a pack slip but does not have a good way
to track that back order. I would like to hear how people deal with
this.

Thanks

We have a problem with the way Vantage 4.0 handles Back Orders. As far as I
can tell, it doesn't. Does anyone have suggestions/reports that would
automate the creation of a back order? EXAMPLE: If an order ships short, how
do the appropriate people find out about it so a job can be created and
scheduled to fill the back order? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Time-phased material requirements report on finished parts is what we run.
This shows upcoming needs and shortages.

That's been a little annoyance of mine also even though we build to stock
and ship from there. A job COMPLETED short of quantity will still show in
time phase with the quantity it was short until its' CLOSED. Since most
people do not CLOSE jobs for a month or so after they're COMPLETED you are
not alerted to the fact that you need to get another job going.

Our guy tries to actually reduce the job quantity to the quantity that was
actually done when he sees jobs are completed short. I do not recommend
trying that as a work around since it both hides the facts (makes it look
like the earlier operations overran the requested job quantity) and is
impossible to keep straight.

I'm looking for a good answer also.

Todd,

I created a report in Report Builder, the user runs each morning requesting
a date (usually today) this prints all outstanding releases up to and
through the date requested. It prints by customer and part within customer,
showing each part for each respective release. It also shows what bin
locations/lots that have inventory.

If no product is available, our shipping supervisor gets with the mfg
manager to determine when product will be available. If mfg doesn't have
any open work orders it goes to scheduling to find out why.

We build everything to stock and ship from stock.

Hi,
We reduce the amount on the job and put a note in the memos that we reduced
quantity from "old quantity" to "new quantity" to quantity production ran.

Todd:

We build to order (mostly), so this might not work for you, but when we ship
against a Sales order, if the order is for 50 pcs and we ship 45, the order
release doesn't close, leaving a requirement "open" on the scheduled
shipments report (which comes off of the sales orders, not the jobs). If
the job (linked to the order) was for 50 and only 45 pcs were completed,
then even if production control changes the job to 45 pcs, there remains an
open 5 pcs - and if they reduce the quantity, they are also responsible for
making sure the other 5 pcs are accounted for. The scheduled shipments
report is reviewed by the production manager.
