We are planning on upgrading to Kinetic shortly and wanted to migrate to the Kinetic homepage while sticking with the Classic applications. The Kinetic Homepage has an “Open Kinetic in Browser” option under the settings menu. Is there any way to disable this? My first though was to block the URL, but not sure if that would cause an issue with the smart client.
That would break the smart client… this is a good question
You can just put the wrong url in the config file so it doesn’t work?
What I hate about that action is that it force closes the entire smart client. I understand why they did it - if you use the browser and the client you are using 2 licenses instead of one. But it doesn’t give you any option to say oops I didn’t actually want to close out of every single thing I had open.
Changing the HomePageUrl in the sysconfig throws an error and then the client launches the shell view instead.
Currently our production server is on 10.2.500 and we have many users using both the old classic view and the shell view. We were hoping to use the Kinetic homepage as a stepping stone and get everyone on the same homepage before we start adopting the Kinetic UI later next year.
What is the risk of them clicking the “Open Kinetic in Browser” to your company?
Can you manage it with, “Don’t click here. If you do, we won’t answer your questions.”
In other words, how much time do you expend on this solution if a year from now you will be showing it to them anyway?
Most likely we will just go with this solution, but figured I would throw this out there in case someone had come across it.
My only concern is that we have not done any work in the Kinetic UI yet. I wouldn’t want someone to be using the Kinetic UI until we have migrated our customizations.
They are prompted with the login page, so that will probably deter most people.
