Vantage nation,

Apparently, if a job is set up for the completed parts to be received to inventory, AND fewer parts are completed and received to inventory than the job was set up to produce, then some of the job costs are taken to expense (COS) when the job is closed.

For example, Job 21133-ABB is set up to produce 23 units. Only 16 have been completed and received to stock. Since the job is still open, about 16/23 of the total job costs have been moved to inventory while about 7/23 are still in WIP. If I closed the job, the costs in WIP would automatically be moved by Vantage to COS.

The question is this: What if I wanted the remaining job costs to move to inventory, and not COS, when I closed the job? Is there some way to make Vantage do this?

They are likely going to COS due to the way you have the system setup.

In previous Vantage setups, we would assign those cost to a
Manufacturing Variance account as opposed to COS.

While technically, you could steer those cost to an inventory account,
it would make it harder when trying to reconcile your inventory
accounts.

Thanks Joe, I am by no means an accountant and am VERY new to Vantage but
I'll look and see if indeed that is what we are doing. Thanks again!

Mike.
