Credit Cards and Vantage

Thanks Jim. We are going to have to do the same thing. I was hoping - the
bank would deduct the fees per transaction but they don't. At the end of
the month the deduct a lump sum. The owner of the co. wants to transfer
every night the balance in that account. At the end of the month - I am
going to have to figure out what the "fees" are going to be and transfer
back or the last transaction - don't transfer it all.

Dina,
Set up two bank accounts in vantage and process the credit card payments as
a cash receipt group hitting the proper bank. At the end of the month you
can then do a bank transfer to move it from your one bank account to the
other. We book the fees as a journal entry at month end with some of the
other automatic payments that we have coming out of our account. Hope that
helps.

Thanks Tricia.

I have to ask the Bank about the fees. I was under the impression - they
take out the fees at the end of the month. But it would be a lot easier
if
they would deduct them per payment.

I don't think we are going to have a large volume just high cost.

Thanks - that does help me.

Dina,

Don't know what your volume is for the credit cards - we average about 3 a
week. I don't store ANY of the credit card data in Vantage due to
Security
issues (ID theft laws are strengthening!). We utilize a program from our
bank to process the credit cards. Funds are deposited into our bank
account
within 2 days (usually 1 day) with the associated fees already deducted.
We
then enter a cash receipt with the fees "charged" to discounts. I do a
journal entry at month-end to reclass those charges to Bank Charges.
Since
our volume isn't too large, it's not too cumbersome. For what it's worth,
if your volume is large enough, make sure you've protected yourself in
relation to the ID theft laws and related security issues.

Tricia

I know most everyone is at Prespectives. But hopefully someone can answer
my question.

We are now accepting credit cards. But how do I set this up in Vantage.
I
am assuming I would apply the payment the same way but how about the fee
(percentage the bank is charging me) Shouldn't I somehow show this in
Vantage - so at the end of the month - I know how much they are suppose to
be charging me? Also we have a separate bank account just for cc's and
every night I have to transfer the $ out that account into the regular
account - I need someway to tract how much money to put / leave in there
at
the end of the month.

What steps do everyone else take? Any advise would be helpful
