DB Conversion Time

That's just it. The Epicor Server has 4 quad core processors, 64GB of
RAM, Server 2008 R2 SP1, and all Epicor related files are stored on a
Fusion IO drive.

Nothing is maxed out on either the Epicor server or 32 bit admin.

The 32 bit admin is running 1 quad core processor, 4GB RAM, Server 2003
SP2, regular spin drives.

Epicor just recommended trying one of two things, either a dump and load
to see if that helps or run everything on a 32 bit machine with SSD
drives.

I'll try the dump and load but the other option seems extreme based on
my serve specs.

Alternatively, disk speed is a really big factor, if you have a desktop
with
a SSD in it, you can do a 32-bit install locally there, and run the
processes much much faster, same with a RAM drive if you have the
available
RAM on a server to put everything into RAM.

Joe, that is way excessive. If I remember correctly, you are running a
progress SB. I don't think the schema changes move any data, that's what
the
conversions are for, but it should be a lot faster than that. I would
check
the .pf you are using to run the schema change, if you are running
default
then you can speed it up by upping the -Mm to 4096 and upping the -Bt to
16384 to give the process plenty of space in RAM and shrink down the
number
of messages that need to bounce back and forth.

I have never run schema changes that tool more than 5 hours to run for a
jump version like that. I did an update this past weekend and the schema
changes took 2.5 hours for 9.04.5xx to 9.05.700 which is the same jump
you
are trying to get to. That was only a 3GB DB, but still, your's sounds
way
off from what it should be.

Hi All,

We are converting our DB from 9.04.507a to 9.05.701

I'm at the first DB conversion step of running the schema change.

I ran this from the Epicor server, which is 64 bit, because I didn't see

workstation. It took 60 hours to complete against a 10GB database.

Epicor support says that is must be run from a 32 bit admin workstation
so
I'm running the schema change again to see what happens.

It's been 5 hours now and it's still running. I can see that
prowin32.exe is
working and the Schema Upgrade window is whited out.

I'm just wondering what others have experienced for schema upgrade
times.

I know at this pace, the database conversions are going to take days!

The major problem with this is that when it's time to cutover, I'm only
going to have a weekend to do this conversion.

My Epicor server specs are pretty high and both the admin workstation
and
the Epicor server are not maxing out.

Last schema conversion I ran was 904 -> 905 that took about 70 minutes on a 40Gb SQL db (2008R2/64)

anything calling out that this step must be run from the 32 bit admin
workstation. It took 60 hours to complete against a 10GB database.

Epicor support says that is must be run from a 32 bit admin workstation so
I'm running the schema change again to see what happens.

It's been 5 hours now and it's still running. I can see that prowin32.exe is
working and the Schema Upgrade window is whited out.

I'm just wondering what others have experienced for schema upgrade times.

I know at this pace, the database conversions are going to take days!

The major problem with this is that when it's time to cutover, I'm only
going to have a weekend to do this conversion.

My Epicor server specs are pretty high and both the admin workstation and
the Epicor server are not maxing out.
