E9: Custom Crystal reports cause "Out of Memory"

These are directions given to by Tim Berryman

----------
A large number of images can still prevent Epicor/Vantage from printing the report no matter the file type.

To resolve the issue create a small blank jpeg file (e.g. 150 px by 150 px) and put it in the position you need the final image to reside.

Then Right Click the image > Format Graphic > Picture 'tab' > Click the code icon next to Graphic Location > Enter the following text > "filepath\filename"

When crystal compiles the report it will replace the blank image with the one specified. This helps keep the crystal file size to a minimum and Epicor/Vantage allows you to print the report.

This should resolve your issues.

I forgot to mention that it's a good item to create athe image you are putting into the report at the exact size that is required in the report. This will avoid unnecessary problems with large and small images.
----------

This reduced a report with a footprint of 2700kb to 119kb.

Make sure you have indexes on any UD table field you link or filter on
that do not have indexes. I.e. anything other than Company, Key1-5

Otherwise it will table scan

Do your rpt files containt large images?

We had an issue when we switched from v8 to e9 where v8 could handle much larger .rpt files that e9 can. Reports would work every time in v8 but when we tried them in e9, 50% of the time we would get this out of memory problem.

Touch wood, since shrinking the images sizes, it hasnt happened as much but occasionally still does.

If its happening with the canned reports, I dont know what to suggest.

On a slightly different note, you know how you can set your archive period of your reports when you print them? Have you noticed how 0 Days and 1 Month are exactly the same thing?

0 Days doesnt actually mean that they are only archived for a short time. They are actually archived for 30 days.

That was precisely the problem! Our logo was large (only 2MB but should have been handled easily by the system) and by downsizing it have not run into the problem since. Thank you, Chris, for the insight! That's what this group is all about.

so, we too are having similar issues with out of memory – we already reduce size to around 2Mb and get the error every so often.
Regarding the purge of reports – I'm on 600C and it does not seem to be purging – is there something I'm missing – on 8 it was not an issue.
Also found that cashed files into the EpicorData directory do not purge and I manage to fill up a 25Gb drive in less than a day if I don't run a batch job to clean them up – any thoughts?
Thanks

Motty,

We had a similar problem in epicor 9.
Our solution was to create an image place holder in the report and then pull the image into the report from a file in a folder on the server.
This allowed us to use larger images with better resolution and still keep the report footprint down to minimum.
