In order for Engineer to log in time, you have to release the job. I have
pushed Epicor really hard to allow certain operations (engineering) or
assemblies to be able to be logged into prior to the job being released.
Vantage could do this by having the option to release by assembly (have a
assembly for engineering time) or have a check box in the operation to
allow time to be logged before it is released. For those companies that
don't want the option, by clicking to release a high level assembly
(assembly 0), it would automatically release all lower level assemblies.
In our case, it causes problems with inventory and purchasing when we have
to release a job before it is engineered because the job template comes
from the quoting module (and configurator) and the quote isn't always
accurate.
Call Epicor and add your name to the suggestion. The call number is
788.989. This call number is related to scheduling, but would also be
helpful for this case.

Subject: [Vantage] Engineering time
We use data collection for our shop employees, but questions have
come up with recording engineering time as well. I would appreciate
any ideas of what others are doing in this regard. Are separate jobs
created just for engineering projects? If not what are they posting
too?
