SUGGESTION:
Add a secondary qty field for a material requirement. This would
work, no matter what kind of material that you buy in bulk. You
procure in a specified unit. You want to sell/use it in a smaller
unit and have multiple of those units. Instead of setting up a
different part or different dimension for each of those units, you
could specify what the unit is (of the base part number) and how many
you need (which is the current Qty per parent). These two would be
multiplied together to reduce inventory when the issue is done.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
We stock our steel, alum, copper, etc. in inches. Our part master
parts are set up as just the thickness and width with the length
being added in the job material as the qty/parent.

Example:
From the print, Detail 002 is (8) pcs of .75 x 3.75 x 2.25 S7 steel

In the part master this is listed as .75 x 3.75 S7 so that inventory
can be stored in inches.
In the job the part master (.75 x 3.75 S7) is pulled in. The
qty/parent is 2.25 IN

With this method, this part master must be pulled into the job 8
times to satisfy the requirements of detail 002 from the print. If
the material is listed only once, there is no way to satisfy two
quantities (the number of pieces and the length) at the same time
unless you had a separate part number for each length needed, which
is impractical. The ideal solution would be to add another quantity
field as suggested above.
