Epicor 9.05.600 x64 MS SQL, can't start AppServers

Step 9.2.2 in the latest version of the install guide

In local security policy, that user account needs:

Act as part of the operating system

Adjust memory quotas for a process

Create a token object

Create permanent shared objects

Log on as a batch job

Log on as a service

Replace a process level token

Can I get clarification on this step? "* set admin service to use a
domain user account that has local administrator permissions, along with
the needed permissions per the Epicor installation guide"

I can't find that in the install guide, and we're currently running it
as the local system account. (Live on 9.05.603, testing 605, looked in
605 SP install guide and the original 9.05.600 install guide).

Thanks,

Brian.

Also an FYI - the basic install steps for Epicor905 (and really any
version of Epicor if you exclude the parts regarding the admin
workstation) are as follows, which the install guide does cover but may
not be as clear as it could be:

ON SERVER:

* install OpenEdge (not into the default path - some issues can be avoid
by not installing into program files)

* install latest OpenEdge service pack and patch

* install OpenEdge Explorer Tool (it is recommended over the PET going
forward)

* install Epicor (not into the default path - some issues can be avoid
by not installing into program files)

* make sure that the OpenEdge and Epicor folders allow everyone full
control (at least during the install process)

* install latest Epicor service pack and patch

* if sql, restore latest version of schema holders per the
install/service pack guide

* set admin service to use a domain user account that has local
administrator permissions, along with the needed permissions per the
Epicor installation guide

ON ADMIN WORKSTATION:

* install 32bit version of OE on admin workstation if 64bit was
installed on server

* install latest OpenEdge service pack and patch on admin workstation

* install client on admin workstation (run epicor9client.msi from shared
epicor905 folder on server) and check the appropriate boxes to install
schema change and admin tools shortcuts

* download and restore training database available from epicweb

ON SERVER:

* start adminservice

* start db / db schema holder and appservers with OpenEdge Explorer Tool

* log in from server or admin workstation - if successful, install
client on other workstations along with Crystal Reports runtime

FYI:

As long as you are installing the latest service pack and patch of
OpenEdge(10.2a SP3 HF 23) you don't need to change your appserver
logging settings - that was corrected in versions after HF 09 I believe

Another detail to check: In one version, the app server logging level
had to be set to "basic", instead of "errors only". I forget the exact
version & details, but a search of the list archives should find it.

Have you tried load the test DB?
Are there any other errors in the application logs of server 2008?
In server 2008 did you set the DEP to "windows programs and services",
and not "ALL except...." ? This one will force you to uninstall all the
programs and start over.

Cant think of anything else at the moment.

"Following Epicor install instructions to the letter" That's the
problem. Epicor 9.05 install instructions are missing all kinds of
necessary steps and are sometimes out of order in regards to when
certain things should be done. It's NOT POSSIBLE to do a 9.05 install
with Epicor's install guide. This is not new, it's been like this since
day 1. Over a year later NOTHING has changed with this worthless
documentation from Epicor.

This is exactly what I'm doing, the server is 64bit and the admin
workstation is 32bit, all by the books.

I'm following the 'Epicor 9.05 Install Guide' to the letter.

This just makes no sense, were the Epicor DVD's not burnt correctly, did
I get one from a bad batch ?.

Thanks.

Realizing this is an old thread, I want to make sure I can do something before I completely trash something important (always an exciting way to spend a weekend...)

We're running E9.04.507A, and I just got the DVDs for 9.05. Just upgraded my test server to SQL 2008, and am going through the prelim stuff (chapters 1-4 of the 9.05 Install Guide).

Main question: can I use my regular daily computer (on which I run 9.04 and Crystal Developer XI) to be the Windows Admin Workstation for the 9.05 installation? Will the actual install of OE 10.2 play nice with the older Epicor (or at least ignore it completely?)

Secondary: Did I read somewhere that the new version of Crystal Developer (2008) can't reside on a system with the CR runtime?

I don't recommend using any user workstations as the Admin Workstation, it
makes the process extremely slow for running conversions. It is rare that
SQL and OpenEdge should be on the same server, so I generally recommend that
you make the SQL server the Admin Workstation, this will also allow you the
benefit of making all the connections for the Admin Tools completely local
through read only schema holders instead of requiring you to bounce from the
Admin Workstation, to the Schema holders to the SQL server, thus allowing
conversions to run much faster.

OE 10.2A won't conflict with anything else, unless you try to run the Admin
Service of more than one version at a time. That can be overcome with some
registry edits though.

Yes, there are some conflicts with the Run Time and the Full Developers
edition existing on the same machine, so I tend to avoid it whenever
possible.

Subject: [Vantage] Re: Epicor 9.05.600 x64 MS SQL, can't start AppServers

Realizing this is an old thread, I want to make sure I can do something
before I completely trash something important (always an exciting way to
spend a weekend...)

We're running E9.04.507A, and I just got the DVDs for 9.05. Just upgraded my
test server to SQL 2008, and am going through the prelim stuff (chapters 1-4
of the 9.05 Install Guide).

Main question: can I use my regular daily computer (on which I run 9.04 and
Crystal Developer XI) to be the Windows Admin Workstation for the 9.05
installation? Will the actual install of OE 10.2 play nice with the older
Epicor (or at least ignore it completely?)

Secondary: Did I read somewhere that the new version of Crystal Developer
(2008) can't reside on a system with the CR runtime?
