Epicor 904.503B Home PC

Agreed on the "slower on some things". I didn't get a chance to put the two major suggestions (namely the "enablelargefiles" and the -1 parameter) into action until 9:30pm last night. I kicked off the conversion and went to bed. This morning at 5:15 it was still clunking away doing something with tax updates? Whatever.
Â
Thanks for all the suggestions.

It also solves the issue of having to increase the locks. Big issue in converting to 9.04.
Some things are faster in single user mode as it is not having to do the locking but other things are slower due to the buffering and multi tasking of multi user mode.

Ok, thanks for the tip. I don't believe I have seen the option of the -1 for single user mode before. Good to know.

I installed 9.04 on a OLD laptop with only 1 gig of ram to see if it would work.
It installed and converted the database.
It was a little slow on the conversions at times but I did them in single user mode which would save on all the data locking.
Â
Just make a shortcut of the Vantage 9.04 Schema Change and edit the properties.
Add a -1 after the prowin32.exe to start it in single user mode.
The database is not started. It is not running during the conversion.
(This also fixes the bug that some people are getting with the license where the CRC does not match before the conversion and the license file can not be loaded before the conversion)
Â
Â
I used it for a couple weeks like that before I installed on the 8.03 server.

Â
I'm trying to install 904.503B on my home PC (I'm a glutton for punishment, sue me). I have gotten as far as step 10.8 (Data Conversions) and well into the conversions ... it's running program cvg10014.p Update GLAccount on GLJrnDtl, when it spits out the error "SYSTEM ERROR: Unable to extend database within Schema Area. (8897)". Clicking OK on that gives up another message: "User XX died with 3 buffers locked (5027)".
Â
The database closes, the main appserver closes and the database will not restart to ACTIVE. This PC has only 2GB of memory, could that be part of the problem or is there another parameter that can be tweaked to get beyond this step?
Â
Thanks,
-Karl

What size is the db?
What size is the B1?

The d1 database is 2,097.1KB (~2.1GB) and the b1 is 1,025.2KB (~1.0GB).

Make sure you have -enablelargefiles turned on in OpenEdge. Also, you may want to increase your lock table entries to 819200 or some multiple of that. Increasing the # of DB blocks in buffer also might help. What type of OS is your home PC?

We recently did this on an XP SP3 laptop and were successful - yes it took some time, but we did get it working.

Jason,
The OS is XP Professional. I will check each one of those settings tonight. I had set the lock table entries to their recommended level (I think 204,800).

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Epicor 9 required at least 3 GB of RAM.

Sincerely,

Stephen

I am running it (test environment) with 2Gb client 2.20 GHz Core2 Duo
and it runs rather well, comparatively to V8.

Hope this helps.
