Epicor running on Solid State hard drives

Thank you,

The most time consuming process for us is "Job Receipts to Inventory".
We even changed the client PC where they do the transactions, nothing
changed. It takes me a while to test it on my PC connected to a totally
different switch, so it's not the network either.

The difference is massive. The amount of improvement will vary between
activities. That said, even our slowest processes are doubled in speed.
I'd
recommend them wholeheartedly.

However, if you haven't done so already, I'd suggest looking at your
client
performance in comparison to your server performance. If your clients
are
bogged down, improving the server will make little difference.

I figured I would throw this out here to see how you would tackle this issue.

I've got roughly 2000 Parts that need to have the same 3 or 4 materials in varying quantities added to their BOMs.

I'm thinking I have the option of either doing it by hand or developing a Service Connect workflow. Neither of those options are very appealing to me but I figured I'd ask how you would tackle the problem if assigned to you.

DMT or service connect is probably the right answer, but you might get away with a scripting utility like autohotkey.

I was wondering if anyone has switched from hard drives to solid state
drives running Epicor and how it affects the performance. I downloaded
and read "Epicor Solid State Drive hardware guide". It sounds great in
theory but will be nice to hear from the users.

We switched to a new server this year that had solid state drives on a RAID 10 configuration. Even with only 4 solid state drives, it made a big difference.

Are you running 2 physical servers? We are wondering if the performance
increase is on the app server or the sql server.

We run all of your Epicor stuff on 1 VM. But we're only supporting about 50

Good Day Waffgle and Steven:

What size are your db? SQL or Informix?

Were you using a Disk array before, or just drives in the
server?

Version?

Our database is about 4.5gb Progress. We were using six 15k drives on a Raid 10 before. Now we have two 15K drives on a raid 1 for the operating system and 4 solid state drives on a raid 10 for Vantage and the database. We have about 45 users. The new server is running Windows 2008R2 64bit Enterprise and has Two Intel Xeon X5650 @ 2.67 GHz processors. This gives us a total of 24 cores. 32GB RAM. So it was a big hardware upgrade for us all around.
Â
We also saw a noticeable improvement on our newer clients running Windows 7 64bit and 8GB or more RAM.

Good Day Waffgle and Steven:

What size are your db? SQL or Informix?

Were you using a Disk array before, or just drives in the
server?

Version?

The difference is massive. The amount of improvement will vary between
activities. That said, even our slowest processes are doubled in speed.
I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.

However, if you haven't done so already, I'd suggest looking at your
client performance in comparison to your server performance. If your
clients are bogged down, improving the server will make little
difference.
