Fixing Lots showing On Hand when they don't have QOH

So I started a call today to fix a couple lot numbers that were showing lots with “On Hand” checked off when those lots did not have a QOH. In fact a couple of those lots were created by mistake during receipt. The receiving department would transpose a number, and then they would un-receive that incorrect Lot and re-receive it. Transaction history tracker shows it coming in and going out at the same qty, but if you go to lot tracker, put in the PN and search for a lot number that one shows up as “On Hand”.

All that being said, they provided me a fix file related to KB0119347. The file worked great and allowed me to search for that PN and show the incorrect lot’s and then update them to no longer have a “On Hand” flag.

Curiosity got the best of me and since it was a generic fix I could tell it to report on < ALL > PN’s. I was then shown a list of 4954 records that are “incorrect”. Spot checking a few of them I’m seeing all the same symptoms. The Lot number shows up in lot searches as on hand, but does not carry an on hand qty. Would you check off update on all 4954 records and fix them? Or would you be scared? LOL

I guess the other question is why does this keep happening? and is this like a known glitch that they just haven’t fixed yet?

Details on fix program

I would try it in my Pilot database to see if it breaks anything first. Also, in Live, before you fix the records, export a list of the parts/lots that are going to be changed. Keep the list in Excel in case anything bad happens with the fix. Then. at least you have a list of the things you may need to fix.

I can’t speak to why it is happening in the first place. Interesting!

That is definitely a sound suggestion  I’ve already run it on the training DB and nothing jumped out at me as being broken, but that DB is only ever used by me when testing fix programs, or patch releases, and I’m not one who can do a full quote to cash test, I don’t have the system knowledge to perform that.

However in inventory when I fixed the two PN’s that they were asking me about they proceeded to tell me there were a bunch more like this, so that lines up with what I’m finding. They pulled one out, that they knew off off the top of their heads, and I ran this fix against that PN and they were so happy to see the 0qty Lots vanish from the search windows. I can see how having those rogue lots can be a pain when issuing material and result in perhaps the wrong lot being selected.
