Going from "purchase direct" to "purchase to inventory"

Hello everyone,

Our purchasing department wants an “easy” way to see the job requirements for certain PO suggestions.

We are no longer purchasing to the job… so the “PO” link is gone.

I showed them Time phase, but they want to see “all requirements of jobs and the suggestions that are for them”.

I plan to create a BAQ… Just want to make sure there is nothing out of the box

To my knowledge there isn’t. When we first implemented Epicor, We were only purchase to inventory. The only way to view what jobs the PO suggestions were for was to view it through Timephase (at least is what we were told).

Thank you so much Nick…. BAQ report, I guess.

If you are writing a BAQ, you can use the PartDtl table to get this in
volume, as Time Phase is a single part at a time.

You might look at the multi level pegging process.

That was the path we were going to go. But we convinced the higher ups to switch to Purchase direct =) Now, just to clarify, when you say job requirements, what are you meaning? You just want to know which job the PO Suggestion is for?

Yes…. Hmmm…. Interesting Nick…. We went from “purchase direct” to “purchase to inventory” because our controller wanted to track inventory.

Thank you Andrew…. I will review that table…. Awesome help…. Thanks!

Hi Brad. We do not have the MRP module…. I think it is within that… as I cant find it…

This also is what worked for our situation. We are more of a JIT manufacturer, so we try to keep inventory levels as low as possible. We typically have a quick turn around on any material we order. However, I do see certain advantages for other companies to use “Purchase to Inventory”.

Purchase direct will make a PO line (or release) to every material sequence. For companies with large BOM’s (say a job if for a whole machine) if you buy direct to a job for say a nut, every assembly and material sequence that nut is used, you will get a line that has to go into a PO.

Secondly, when you buy direct to a job, the average costs do not get updated, as it’s treated as a special order that will not affect costing.
