Job pulling in the wrong material E9 version 604

Scott - you may be right - I just tried that and of course it doesn't remind
you to pull in the correct material but just leaves the old material there.



I shall put it down to Operator Error.

Was the job created from MRP or hand created?

If it was hand created, I can see where the user created a job using
part "380906", populated the Job Material from part "308906" BOM and
then realizing a mistake changes the part on the job to 380606 and does
not delete and repopulate the job with the correct BOM.

From the outside it looks like the job populated with the wrong BOM data
but it did not. If you can't recreate the problem, I will bet my
morning cup of coffee this is what happened. I know it because it has
happened here too.

Has anyone else seen this happen? I can't see how it could be operator error unless they manually entered each material off of a crib sheet for the wrong item - but why do that?

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure that the boms are different?

I had one guy swear to me that they were but when we actually checked the revisions in the engineering workbench it turns out he copied one over the other!

The only way to see changes is if your guys recorded the changes (and then look at the audit log) or kept the old revision and you can do a revision compare.

When you create / modify / whatever and you go to check the part back in, the system asks you to record the changes, but they don't have to. You can bypass that screen and not record anything.

Just depends on your business process.

The only way to see changes is if your guys recorded the changes (and then
look at the audit log) or kept the old revision and you can do a revision
compare.

When you create / modify / whatever and you go to check the part back in,
the system asks you to record the changes, but they don't have to. You can
bypass that screen and not record anything.

Just depends on your business process.

Subject: [Vantage] Job pulling in the wrong material E9 version 604

We have created a job for a part but the material that has been pulled in is
material for a different part. The two part numbers are very similar except
that one digit is a 9 on one and a 6 on the other. This has then resulted in
New PO Suggestions trying to buy the wrong materials.

Has anyone else seen this happen? I can't see how it could be operator error
unless they manually entered each material off of a crib sheet for the wrong
item - but why do that?

No - we have two products which have very similar part numbers - only
difference is one digit - let's say they are 380906 and 380606 - they have
two different BoMs but somehow the materials for Part 1 has ended up in Part
2 when a job was raised. But when I look at each Part and their respective
BoMs they are correct. So I cannot see how the Materials for Part 1 ended up
in a job for Part 2. I have tried to recreate it but the job pulls in all
the correct materials. All I can think is that Part 2's revision was
accidentally updated with the wrong parts then a job was raised. Someone
realised the mistake, corrected the BoM but didn't correct the job which was
found.



That is my assumption but I am concerned in case there is a possibility that
Epicor got confused because of the similarity in part numbers and loaded the
wrong materials into the job

The only way to see changes is if your guys recorded the changes (and then
look at the audit log) or kept the old revision and you can do a revision
compare.

When you create / modify / whatever and you go to check the part back in,
the system asks you to record the changes, but they don't have to. You can
bypass that screen and not record anything.

Just depends on your business process.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure that the boms are different?

I had one guy swear to me that they were but when we actually checked the
revisions in the engineering workbench it turns out he copied one over the

Two possibilities, neither one of which can probably be proven now L

- When the job was first created the BOM was wrong, and
correcting the part BOM later doesn't fix existing jobs.

- In job entry, you can change the material part number,
somebody may have "fixed" a job incorrectly



We've had both happen a couple of times. If it's a regular problem,
turn on change logs, but if they're not already on, no real way to prove
what happened.

realised the mistake, corrected the BoM but didn't correct the job which

found.

That is my assumption but I am concerned in case there is a possibility

Epicor got confused because of the similarity in part numbers and loaded
the
wrong materials into the job

The only way to see changes is if your guys recorded the changes (and
then
look at the audit log) or kept the old revision and you can do a
revision
compare.

When you create / modify / whatever and you go to check the part back
in,
the system asks you to record the changes, but they don't have to. You
can
bypass that screen and not record anything.

Just depends on your business process.

I had one guy swear to me that they were but when we actually checked

revisions in the engineering workbench it turns out he copied one over

We have created a job for a part but the material that has been pulled

material for a different part. The two part numbers are very similar

that one digit is a 9 on one and a 6 on the other. This has then
resulted in
New PO Suggestions trying to buy the wrong materials.

Has anyone else seen this happen? I can't see how it could be operator
error
unless they manually entered each material off of a crib sheet for the
wrong
item - but why do that?

I see...and that sounds like your culprit.

But I have not played with E9 to say that there isn't a bug for getting the details.

Look through the other emails on the list, I could have sworn that Jennifer Lisser mentioned issues with get details in version E9, but I am not sure which patch had the issues.

Subject: [Vantage] Job pulling in the wrong material E9 version 604

We have created a job for a part but the material that has been pulled in is
material for a different part. The two part numbers are very similar except
that one digit is a 9 on one and a 6 on the other. This has then resulted in
New PO Suggestions trying to buy the wrong materials.

Has anyone else seen this happen? I can't see how it could be operator error
unless they manually entered each material off of a crib sheet for the wrong
item - but why do that?

Was the job created from MRP or hand created?



If it was hand created, I can see where the user created a job using
part "380906", populated the Job Material from part "308906" BOM and
then realizing a mistake changes the part on the job to 380606 and does
not delete and repopulate the job with the correct BOM.



From the outside it looks like the job populated with the wrong BOM data
but it did not. If you can't recreate the problem, I will bet my
morning cup of coffee this is what happened. I know it because it has
happened here too.
