Large Blanket Jobs with Full Raw Material Traceability

What problems arise if you lot track and use serial numbers? Is that a version specific problem? We are on 8.03.408.

We are beginning to implement lot tracking and serial numbers on certain part numbers and so far through testing, I have not seen any problems using lot tracking and serial numbers on these parts.

We are going through our Implementation process with 9.05.604A.

We have several 24/7 operations that require full raw material traceability. In a 24 hour period, we can produce 15 products. Our customer requires that we provide them with the raw materials that went into produce each product. Talking with our consultants, they suggest we have a new job for every product produced or use the split job feature. We are leaning away from the split job for several reasons.

Does anyone have a better suggestion? If different jobs are the only way to go, is there an easy way to create these jobs on the fly so our manufacturing staff can do it?

Any suggestions would help.

How many different raw materials go into a Job or Part?

Everything is lot tracked by item. I will have 4 different raw material part numbers going into the finished product. Sometime multiple lots of the same part number.
Our finished product is also lot tracked.

Have you looked into using Serial Numbers? You can then assign serial numbers to the finished product when you receive them to inventory. When you ship to your customer from inventory, you can select which serialized parts you are shipping and the serial numbers would print on the packing slip. I think this would give you the traceability you need from customer shipment back to raw materils. Since you are a 24/7 operation, if you want your machinists to issue material to the jobs as they consume it, you can implement AMM and using MES the machinists can issue material from inventory (specifying which serail numbers are being used) to jobs as they consume it.

Have you looked into using Serial Numbers? This would allow you to
assign serial numbers to all raw materials when you receive them to

material requirements. You can then assign serial numbers to the
finished product when you receive them to inventory. When you ship to
your customer from inventory, you can select which serialized parts you
are shipping and the serial numbers would print on the packing slip. I
think this would give you the traceability you need from customer
shipment back to raw materils. Since you are a 24/7 operation, if you
