Lot Numbers in reported MES quantities for medical products

Can we all get an AMEN for that! We despise secondary databases as
well. If it can all be in Vantage were all users have equal access to
it so much the better.

I thank you! Our users in Quality Systems thank you! and our warehouse
manager thanks you!

This will save us from using a separate additional electronic system and
save us from having to pass information on paper.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
For medical products, we have a need to assign new lot numbers during the course of a job at any hour of the day or night.

These lot numbers are assigned, changed, and controlled by the Quality Systems Department and provided directly to the machine where the product is being packaged when it is being packaged.

At the end of each shift, the employee enters the shift quantity into MES in the End Labor Activity screen.

The problem is that Vantage MES (8.03.404) does not allow Lot Number Entry at this screen.

Lot number entry is done in the Material Queue, which is a function that our warehouse manager performs when he checks product into the warehouse each morning. He is doing this in his office and it would not be efficient for him to have to walk out of his office to find the skid to look at the lot numbers on each box of product.

I am trying to figure out a way to customize the End Labor Activity screen to allow entry of a lot number at that time. Then I would pull this lot number into the Material Queue.

However I have been unable to figure out which tables to use.

The End Labor Activity form uses Views named Emp, End, Hed, & LPart. The quantity field is End.LaborQty.

The Material Queue form uses a View named IM.

I cannot figure out which Progress tables match these View names.

I have been looking at the LaborDtl and PartWip and PartTran tables. None of them seem to hold all of the day's records which were entered into the End Labor Activity. Although LaborDtl does hold some of the records that I need; it is missing other records entered by the same person on the same day. I don't understand why.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or does anyone have a better way to pass Lot Numbers from the production floor into Vantage?

How are the lot numbers generated? Can you put a barcoded label on the
paperwork so the warehouse manager can just "beep" them in?

Mark W.
The lot numbers are just a combination of the Vantage JobNum plus a date/time stamp which reflects the date/time that the lot number was begun.

Right now Quality provides printed stickers to place next to the part number on the cartons. Currently there is no paperwork passed to the warehouse manager. The warehouse manager simply checks whatever is in the Material Queue into the warehouse. Right now, Vantage automatically populates the lot number field in the material queue with the JobNum. So as of now, our "real" concatenated lot numbers don't exist in the Vantage tables.

Because of this, Quality keeps a separate spreadsheet in which they manually maintain lot number traceability.

We would like to get rid of this spreadsheet and have our lot number traceability exclusively in Vantage.

I was hoping to avoid passing a sheet of paper to the warehouse manager by programming the lot number to pass from End Labor Activity to Material Queue.

UD tables? You could then pass that information around in vantage in a

The lot numbers are just a combination of the Vantage JobNum plus a

begun.

Right now Quality provides printed stickers to place next to the part
number on the cartons. Currently there is no paperwork passed to the

the Material Queue into the warehouse. Right now, Vantage automatically
populates the lot number field in the material queue with the JobNum. So
as of now, our "real" concatenated lot numbers don't exist in the

Because of this, Quality keeps a separate spreadsheet in which they
manually maintain lot number traceability.

We would like to get rid of this spreadsheet and have our lot number

I was hoping to avoid passing a sheet of paper to the warehouse manager
by programming the lot number to pass from End Labor Activity to
Material Queue.

OK, I think I understand what you are suggesting.

I think you are saying that I don't need to figure out what tables are associated with the End Labor Activity views because no matter what -- when I store the lot numbers in a UD table -- I can still enter them with a customized control on the End Labor Activity screen and then call them back up in the Material Queue or anywhere else.

Am I following this concept correctly?

Pretty much, there are a lot of ways to access information from a UD
table or get information to a UD table. Customizations, BPM's, or even
creating foreign key views in other forms representing those UD tables.
You can create adaptors from those controls to the tables as well I
believe. Ive done that before with combo boxes. Come to think of it
either way youll end up adding an adapter to the UD table that stores
that information. Keep in mind the key fields in the UD tables (the
ones you link to if you create a foreign key view) are string fields.
But that sounds like its what youll be dealing with anyhow. On a side
note Im looking forward to ver 9 as in there you can directly call a UD
table form from a customized control for data entry of all types from
the MES screens. I requested this in 8.03.40X but they said they
couldn't do it...but 9 must be special somehow...hhmm.
