MES login Blank Title 103094

Cindy,

You should not have to close the session every time an MES user logs in. We
only have a few users, but here is what we have:
shop shop is the login upon starting MES
Shop employee clicks login, start production, then log out. Then the next
guy does the same and they never Close MES. They do the same for breaks and
lunch. It only takes a few seconds and should not cause trouble with
sessions.

Are you showing hung sessions in admin console?

We are an 8.03.408B user and we are testing the MES module. On V6 it seems like there was a Shop/Shop userID/password combination and that you only had to have one user license with it. Under V8.03 we don't see the Shop/Shop user, so I'm not sure how to proceed. I have logged in under my userID, but then it looks like to me that only one person can be logged in at a time. Is there a generic shop user that we can use to login and then each shop employee can scan their ID badge to clock in, login, etc.?

Thanks, Cindy
Cindy

We have 5 MES systems on the floor with 4 Companies in the system the way we have worked it is to have one EMPLOYEE in each company that is ONLY in that company "SHOPUSER, EEEUSER" when you start Mes in the morning you enter the Shop Employee for the company you want MES to start in. SHOPUSER is only for logging into mes in the correct company .Then when your real employees come in they clock in the system and log in to their jobs / operations at the end of the day make sure they log out of the job and CLOCK out of the system. if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me .

You can set a "shop" username up easily enough, we did that in 6.1 and
do the same today in 9.05. Look at the default.mfgsys file in your
client/config folder - you can make a copy of that file (eg to
defaultMES.mfgsys) & set it up to automatically log in for MES stations.
Once MES is started, employees can clock in/out etc without entering a
password. Same concept as 6.1, but the details in that config file are
different.

Note there is a new-ish feature you might be running into - it is
possible to link user security & shop employees, so that clocking in
requires a password. (employee maintenance -> production -> user name).
It sounds like you don't want that feature, but it might be turned on
for your own clock number.

Cindy,

We created a user named shop shop (last name required) and password shop. We
also set the username and password in the .mfgsys config file so it would
automatically log in as shop. Finally, we put MES on the Startup menu so
that upon reboot, you're in MES.

I'm not sure your situation but I'll describe what we are doing. We setup our MES in kiosk mode (only Vantage will run) with a separate Vantage user login for each station (login1, login2, etc). They are setup to run MES in the Windows startup and auto login via Vantage config. The big advantage of having the machines uniquely identified is administration. In admin tools, I can see exactly which stations are up and running and if any are down. If using MES for labor timekeeping, you don't want each employee to have log in to Vantage, then clock in. If you did that, every employee would need to close the session and open it back up every time which would be terribly slow at shift change.

Also, if you happen to have any MES users that also have a full version Vantage user account, you should not link the employee record with Vantage user id. If the user and employee are linked, when they attempt to login to MES, it will prompt them for their password and they will remain logged in to the MES instead of the generic loginX id. This occurs in the Employee setup and the user setup although I don't know which one is the driving factor.
