Vantage 8 MES & Terminal Services

We typically add usernames in Windows and Vantage individually. MES1, MES2, etc..for both Windows and Vantage. This has several advantages, but mostly allows us to identify which workstation/user is having problems or who is still logged in to the application in the event we need to restart or shutdown. If you only use one Windows ID, then you may run into issues with the same user fighting for the session. I think I remember there is a way to turn this off, however I'm not sure exactly where it is - Terminal Service Configuration somewhere - I'd have to dig through it.

What is the recommended practice for Windows usernames and Vantage usernames when terminal services is used?

Currently, we have users shop1, shop2, shop3, etc. setup in both Windows and Vantage.

I'd like to have just 1 username, i.e. SHOP, and use single signon in Vantage.

We are currently using Windows Server 2003.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt
That's what we in effect do also...we then name the computers MES1, Mes2
etc...auto start the MES application etc..

Rob,

Just to clarify, are you saying that you use multiple usernames or that you use only 1 usernames with terminals names MES1, MES2, etc.?

Thanks,

Matt

One other thing. Make sure personalazation is turned off for the Shop

We do the same here. All logons are "shop" only I use a location
description as the computer name such as Brake6 or Asm3. You can then
find them physically if you have a problem. I have 45 MES stations in
four buildings.

One username with terminals MES1 etc..correct. I think my IT guy would
have clobbered me if he had to add 15 additional user names to the
directory.....
