Need a Larger -N Error

You should set you -n to the number of Progress license seats you have plus
about 15 extra.
Progress could care less how many Vantage seats you have, it only cares how
many connections to
the Progress servers you have. The extra 15 is to take care of your
database servers, brokers, APW's,
BIW's, AIW's. These all count in it's total also. Making it unusually
large does not benefit you any and
actually takes some resources.

When a user runs a report builder report progress counts them as another
user. If your Vantage License is for say 50, set the -n in progress for 70.
This allows for 20 of your 50 users to run reports all at the same time. Of
course if this happens you will not get errors related to "Increase your -n
size." just users asking why the system is so slow.

We are running Vantage 3.0 and occasionally get errors related to
our -n size. I am told by support this has to do with the number of
user licenses we have. The problem is our system will start throwing
this error to anyone trying to get on Vantage even though we are not
exceeding our seats.

Clients who are already in Vantage continue to work without a problem
for about 15-20 minutes and then the entire system locks. Also,
ProMon does nothing but sit there with a blank screen. The only
resolution at this point is rebooting the server, which is not the
favorite thing to do in the middle of the day.

If anyone has experienced this problem and knows a resolution, I'd
appreciate hearing about it.

Erik,

On your server goto the "X:\EPICOR\PROGRESS" directory and edit the
"STARTUP.PF" file ...

Add or edit the following line :

-n 100 # Max nbr of progress clients

We have a 50 user license for Progress. I set my "-n" parameter to double
the number or 100.

Bottom line is that Vantage limits the number of people that can use the
system - you don't need the Progress limit.

Also, setting the number too high can hurt performance so don't get carried
away.

After changing the number stop and restart Progress on the server.
