Urgent - Report Builder Issue

You have reached the maximum numbers of Progress Users. Officially you
should buy additional users. But for now you can increase the -n parameter
in the progress.ini file. This file is located in the your progress\bin
directory at the server.

When trying to open Report Builder we are getting the error message:

"Unable to initialize the database engine. The server or the system
has no more resources. Try a larger -n (748). Already logged out of
Embedded SQL Interface. Request ignored. (2605). Terminating Report
Builder"

Is there anyone who is familiar with the message that can let us know
what to do?

We got this right after upgrading to 6.1. Apparently most of the DB settings defaulted to pretty low values. Occured for both users and RB. Depending on the number of users there is a formula for setting the number of servers (nothing to do with physical servers) in the Progress Explorer settings for the DB. There is an optimization tool available that can walk you through the settings too. Unfortunately making them take effect requires a DB shutdown/restart.

-n is the number that specifies the number of connections to the Progress
database. In Progress 9.1D it's part of the GUI interface in progress
explorer. I'm thinking it's "Maximum Users". this is under your database
and then properties for the configuration your using. There is some
calculation that Epicor has in the installation instructions, but basically
make sure this is at least one more than your number of Vantage, data
collection, and report builder licenses combined. After changing you have
to restart the database.

We had the exact same message today.

If you know that you haven't exceeded your number of users, check ProMon to make sure there are no resources used by a user that has logged off of Vantage but their resource is still there. Terminate those users.

You could always just restart the database.
