[ok] Server Performance

Forgot to put that. DB size = 2.4 GB.

I Knew not to use Raid 5, raid 10 probably would have been a better
choice.

Why Raid 1? All depends on your database size.

New to Vantage 6.1. Going live in 2 weeks from 4.0.

What are the optimal DB configuration property settings for Vantage 6.1
for a server with 4 GB memory / 29 users / 10 DC users / Raid 1

Network is 1 GB and 100 MB . / Desktops are 95% Windows XP Pro.

What are the best settings for:

# Blocks in DB Buffer:

# Hash table entries:

# Lock table entries:

Maximum users:

Maximum servers:

Any other settings I need to adjust?

We are using Raid 10 configuration
If you are referring to #blocks in db buffer, 6.1 is set at 40000 and
8.03 is set at 0
Not sure about the hyperthreading but I would guess that it is not
enabled

The first two things that come to mind are:

1. How much memory are you allocating to each - look at the "block" values in the Progress Explorer for each db?
2. What type of Raid configuration are you using?

A third item to look into is if HyperThreading in enabled or not on your processors.

Is anyone else running Vantage 6.1 and Vantage 8.03 on the same server?
I am using a Dell 2800 with dual 3.4ghz and 4gb ram and the performance
is terrible ever since we installed 8.03. I have already changed the
port number for OpenEdge 10.0B to 20555, it was using the same as
Progress 91D. The only thing on this server is Vantage, any suggestions?

Dan,

You will want to put in a block value for the 8.03 database. Here's
what Epicor recommends as a "starting point"

10000 blocks equals 41.5 mb (4k block size) or 83.8 mb (8k block
size).

Epicor recommends that you pre-load 1.5x the size of your database
(the .d1 file). For example if you had 100MB database then you would
want to pre-load (or allocate) 150mb worth into memory. Using the
formula above, 40000 blocks ~ 166MB (4k size) or 20000 blocks ~ 167mb
(8k size).

This is not exact, but should help you size the server accordingly.
Also, make sure your anti-virus real-time scanning does not include
the epicor, client803, documents and settings, etc. directories as
this will cause a major impact as well.

Hope this helps,

We have a 14gb database for 6.1 and 8.03
I will check the realtime scan on the antivirus. We did bring on 2
new servers and one of them did get our antivirus software installed
and maybe it has been set to scan the Epicor folders

Thanks
