OT: Exchange 2000 Server

Ok. I set up the preview pane for this manager and he liked that. We also set up the folder. We did an experiment. I set up my e-mail to get receipts. I sent him an e-mail. Then I had him move my e-mail to the UNREAD folder. Once in the UNREAD folder I had him double click on my e-mail. Once he did that he got a read receipt. We will try it this way for awhile.

Thanks for your help and humor!

Juliet

So if I understand your point, you want to cut down on the communication within the company. Most companies have trouble building communication, not stopping it.

One thing you could do is set his settings to not mark the email as being read. Go to tools, options, other, preview pane. Don't let emails that he reads change to "read". When he deletes the email, the sender will get the message "the email was deleted without being read". This should do a good job or irritating them. Or, even better, he could create a "read" folder and just put the "unread" emails there. They would never get a read receipt even though he has already read them.

We use Exchange 2000 Server and Office 2000. How can I turn off "Automatically send a read receipt". I have a manager that is getting quite annoyed with this. When I go into the Outlook tracking options, everything is grayed out for disallowing this option. The grayed out section only applies to outside mail anyway. The problem mail is coming internally. If there are any Exchange Guru's out there I would appreciate any hints, crumbs or dope slaps. Will continue internet research...

Thanks

Juliet
Tell your manager to worry more about getting his job done and less about some nuisance email settings. Only kidding unless you agree with me.

I checked the tracking options and everything should be there to control this. Is he getting pissy, oops sorry, annoyed about getting read receipts for the mail that he sent or about other people getting read receipts from the mail he opened?

People getting read receipts from mail he opens.

He reads the mail then immediately the phone rings from the person and he can't not answer the phone because they know he just read the e-mail. No attempt at telling the staff person to knock off the receipt requests has worked. Sometime people just need there space. Plus, it would really be fun to frustrate this staff person. :-) Actually, I have always been curious as to how to do this. The options are grayed out. I read on the net that it only works for external mail only.
